I was given a sea monkeys kit for my birthday as a fish related joke.

I have hatched them (they are basically brine shrimp right?)and all is well I am just confused as what to do with them now.

I don't want to feed them to my fish, i have got used to them in my desk and not sure it would be safe to add them to my tank.

can they live in fresh water? I doubt it but I thought I 'd ask.

(I have put a few in the six g i am still setting up and it looks lke they are breeding?? - well something small and white is floating about! but it maybe worms!!!)

if not fresh water how much salt would they need?

thanks
GFG

Yes they are brine shrimp. Yes they need salt water, they come naturally from bodies of water that are very high in salt content such as the Great Salt Lake where nothing else survives it is so salty. Hence, the term "brine." Not sure how long you'll be able to keep them alive in your tank, but they won't survive in fresh water.

Here's a link that will give you some additional info on brine shrimp from the Great Salt Lake.

They tend to peter out after generation 3 anyway, because the ater just gets too much ammonia in it. Its a devil to change.

I found they did better when i put them on or near my aquarium light for some added heating.
