I seen the coolest thing today at walmart it was listed as a dinosaur eel i really liked it but been doing some research on it and it eats fish and will grow up to 12 inches WOW i dont have a tank for that and defently dont wont something that going to eat my fish but i want one i guess in the future when i get my bro's 55g until then more research

i wouldnt sugest getting one. But thats just me. (i dont like eels) Seems like a waste of a 55 gal. i would put some delicates in it if i were you.

yeah I think I proably wont get one and it will be a long time before i get my bro'd 55g because he still has his oscars in it and he doesnt wont them any more he got them for his wife and noone will help him clean it but him

if or when you do get a tank that size then I would definitely recommend you getting one. they are not really all that dangerous unless you keep very small, torpedo shaped fish like neons or anything like that. if you keep them with fish that will grow to around 4" or more and are fairly round in shape then they should be fine with a dinosaur eel. incidentally, this is not really an eel, it is a bichir or more specifically Polypterus senegalus. they are very cool fish. I used to have 7 (all different types of bichirs) but have lost a couple since moving.

basically, don't keep them with anything that will fit in their mouth and you should be fine.

Dinosaur eels are typically either senegal bichirs (what petsmart &amp; petco have) or violet gobys. Since they said they eat fish, I'm leaning towards the bichir in your case. Anyway, really cool fish. If you do get one, don't just feed it feeders... I'd get 4-5 big female guppies and 1 or 2 males to provide constant snackies, but give it a varied diet - crickets, meal worms, waxworms, brine shrimp, small ghost shrimp, beefheart, etc. And they should take to pellets designed for things like oscars, arrowannas, etc.

halofishboy, the fish you linked to is a Reed fish or more commonly known as a Rope fish. it is possible that an lfs could have gotten Rope fish in and sold them as dinosaur eels, however in most cases dinosaur eels that are sold in common chain stores are senegal bichirs. senegal bichirs look very similar to a Rope fish though there are color differences and the biggest difference is the body shapes of the 2 fish. Rope fish have a much more elongated body than a senegal bichir does.

I really want one but i can wait on one for right now until i get my info up and and the tank
