| Seen a dinosaur eel | |

Jason_R_S![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Moderator Posts: 2811 Kudos: 2421 Votes: 391 Registered: 18-Apr-2001 ![]() | if or when you do get a tank that size then I would definitely recommend you getting one. they are not really all that dangerous unless you keep very small, torpedo shaped fish like neons or anything like that. if you keep them with fish that will grow to around 4" or more and are fairly round in shape then they should be fine with a dinosaur eel. incidentally, this is not really an eel, it is a bichir or more specifically Polypterus senegalus. they are very cool fish. I used to have 7 (all different types of bichirs) but have lost a couple since moving. basically, don't keep them with anything that will fit in their mouth and you should be fine. Since they said they eat fish, I'm leaning towards the bichir in your case. Anyway, really cool fish. If you do get one, don't just feed it feeders... I'd get 4-5 big female guppies and 1 or 2 males to provide constant snackies, but give it a varied diet - crickets, meal worms, waxworms, brine shrimp, small ghost shrimp, beefheart, etc. And they should take to pellets designed for things like oscars, arrowannas, etc. |

Rope fish have a much more elongated body than a senegal bichir does. ![]() |
