uniqueyat,

I like the basic idea of slate sticking out of the gravel. Somehow I have the feeling that I have seen this design just recently somewhere here at FP (in particular when looking at your last picture) .

Did you glue the bridge structure in the middle of the tank together? If not, you can be assured that it is just a question of time until it collapses.

I would say that your slate is too small to really make an impact. I don’t know, but if you are planning to add plants to the tank then your rocks will become invisible in no time. IMHO, add larger pieces that reach higher up.

Hope this helps,

Ingo

I am flattered

But seriously uniqueyat, try to find pieces that are larger to really make an impact and also to give it a bigger 3D effect.

I second Little Fish that bigger would be better. Unless you can add more. It all depends on your vision for the project.

uniqueyat,

“if I were to do anybodies it would be yours”

That is soooo nice of you. I am honored but I am sure that various layouts have inspired my design, in particular the rock arrangements by Amano, so indirectly you are copying the Master directly (I am sure he doesn’t mind either).

About your general arrangement, I would say that you have too many (one could also say none) highlights. Try to create one main group, either approx. 2/3rd to the right or left (golden rule of division in proportions with 1.6 to 1). All other rocks should stray out from that group. Take your time and look at your setup a few times from different angles and keep posting pictures when you think you are happy (we will make sure to mess you up ).

Hope this helps,

Ingo
