Hi Guys,
My Bolivian Rams laid eggs last night, and I want to move them into a 10g tank.
If I use gravel and water from my big tank, and a filter off of my 25g, will the tank still cycle?
If I put the rock with the eggs on it into a small container underwater and then lift it out full, the eggs wont be damaged will they?
I know there is a good chance once I move them that they will eat the eggs, but another batch will be on the way soon I am sure.
Should I move both parents, or just the Mom?
There will be No other fish in the tank, and it will be lightly planted.

I am not sure about your other questions but i would definitley move the mom and the dad since they both take part in the rearing of the fry, and escpecially if you say they will spawn again.

"If I use gravel and water from my big tank, and a filter off of my 25g, will the tank still cycle?"

Nope, not at all actually

"If I put the rock with the eggs on it into a small container underwater and then lift it out full, the eggs wont be damaged will they?"

Going to be some loss but minimal, something else that helps is making sure it is a tuppeware like container and putting a lid on it and then taking it out.

"Should I move both parents, or just the Mom?"

Both

Goodluck,

Good luck Pete.
I have 3 in my one tank and hoping they will breed in the near future. How old is your pair, what is your temp in the tank, who are the other mates in the tank with them??
Please keep us posted, and GOOD LUCK !!

Hi all,
thanks for the responses!
The pair are moved, and mom is happily guarding her eggs again from the "snail menace"
They were in my 75g tank. The male is somewhere between 2-3 years of age, and the female is very young- I would say between 6 months and 1 year of age. She is about 2 inches long, the male is just over 4.
They spawned in the community tank, with tons of other fish around - 3 other Boliv. Rams, loaches, corys, flying fox, rainbow shark, sae, gouramis, Discus, tetras of several types, etc.
I have moved them now into the 10g.
I used gravel from my 25g tank (had tons of gravel), the cascade 50 of my 25, and then used water from my 75g tank,
taken during a water change so its a good mixture of aged and new water.
The temp seems to be staying good at 82F, the same temp as the big tank. I didnt want to change anything.
The only occupants of the 10g now are the male and female ram, and some snails that hitchhiked over on the plants I put in there.
I planted it with 1 Wisteria cutting, java fern (lots), vall spiralis and corkscrew, 1 tiny amazon sword (will move when it gets bigger), and 2 dwarf lotus red.
I will be posting pics in the photo booth later on of the new tank!

Not changing anything is perfect

Are you going to introduce fry to the original tank, or have another setup you'll use to rear them past a certain point? Just asking because you might want to start cycling another tank to grow out the fry past the point where the parents want to care for them.

Going to sell them, or not sure yet?

Either way glad to hear the move went well

Hi Koi,
well, all is going well,
the eggs are developing nicely and look to hatch in the next 48 hours.
I have a spare 5 and 10g tank, and a sponge filter for growing out fry in.
I will probably sell them privately through the paper.
