Hey, whats up

I have a few quetions
I know someone who is selling his tank,
55G AGA It comes with everything, filter pump, gravel, plants, fish etc......
It has a fluval filter and an aquaclear 500
I am waiting for him to get back in touch wth me, I will then know what fish etc... It comes with

He is asking for 175, I think I could talk him down tho
I am just wondering if I should even bother with this deal, I do believe this is a deal, compared to buying a 29G tank w/everything would cost about the same

I will update with everything it comes with soon.

Thanks,

Id go for it- a cheap 55 set up with equipment ( that needs upgraded) is atleast 150..... add a school of fish and your at 175-

But It depends on WHAT IS IN THere- there could be incompatable fish in there, fish your not going to be intrested in, gravel you dont like, filters that have seen better days........ Take that all into consideration and see how much gravel, and replacement parts are going to cost, and if you can find homes for any fish you dont want or dont belong in the tank before you buy.

As long as everyting appears to be in okay shape sounds like a good price to me. If the fish are not the type you want you may be able to trade them with a local lfs.

Hey, Thanks
yah I have been asking him many quetions
He shouldl reply soon with a list of everything that is included, He says everything is included, fish etc.....
I also know that I could trade in fish for fish I would like.
Before I buy I will be checking it out by going to (wherever)he is and I'll even take pics so you guys can back me up, I trust you all here

I am just hoping that everything comes out ok, I have already told him I wont be buying right now, he said its cool I can take my time, a month or two if need be, He has ( I think ) 3 other 55 g AGA tanks and said he wanted to get rid of one so he can take care of the other two to the best of his ability

I guess we'll see

One thing i am worried about are the fiters pumps etc...
I am thinking about selling the filters I get and buying penguin filter w/bio wheel etc...

I am very very exited to possibly be owning a 55G tank

If i do get the tank I have a few plans

I may be interested in a schooling fish, 55 neon tetras in a mild planted tank I believe would look great,
I am also thinking about going with a biger fish, dont know yeat, I'll decide that later

It still sounds like a fair price to me. You might be able to talk him down a bit, but with a stand and all I think the price would be hard to beat if all is in good shape.

Well I assume it comes with a heater also. Sounds like a great deal. As for the fish, see if you can line up a trade in before the purchase. The plec(must) and severum (should) go,and the african if you decide against(rift lake) cichlids. Filters are good BTW. Best to clean everything thorouly and recycle the tank.

With the stand that's a pretty good price...

However I highly doubt that the pleco is actually 12", the tank itself is only 12" deep front to back....in anycase you're likely going to need to try and sell or trade it to a local fish store (LFS) as that tank is too small for it.

If you're keeping the fish that it's coming with you'll need to rethink some of your stocking plans that were mentioned earlier. And just as a heads up, you might want to verify the actual measurements of the tank itself prior to settling on a deal. I've found out that sometimes people guess @the tank size.

hey, thanks for the info

Oh ya, before I buy I already told the guy I need to check it out first, take measurements, and also take pics etc.....
I will not be keeping the fish that are in there, I would be giving them for a great lfs for now and then get some neons or cardinals, Its looking like cardinals over neons right now,

I am going to spend the next few eeks or a mont+ to think about this ask questions etc......

I may look for another tank, I would rather have a 50G AGA which has a larger base than a 55G tall, for abviuose reasons, more base room more room for the fish to swim, turn etc...

Again, With schools of cardinals would it be possible for maybe one (1) redtailed shark in the tank? Or more. If not is there anything that resembls a shark that would be compatible with the schooling cardinals?

I got some more to say but I got to go work on my car to get it ready for the morning, making a smnall movie.

Later, TIA (Thanks In Advance)

Welcome to FP I'd go for it, especially if it is set up so you know it runs fine I would definately get rid of the fishies inside though, there are so many other fish you could get, and a nice large school of Neons or Cardinals would be awesome I know I love my school of 22 Neons in my 125 I'd go with say 15 Neons and maybe 6 of the smaller Corries I'm sorry, but the corries will provide you so many laughs you'll be rolling on the floor, and trying to figure out how big of a tank you can get next, to fill with corries:%)And if you don't believe me just ask anyone else who has them Best of luck, heidi

My suggestion:

With your big school of Cardinals, get either Heidi's habrosus or my Pandas. If you're looking for something a little bigger to integrate with them, one of my favourite suggestions (if you can find it) is the African Butterfly Cichlid, Anomalochromis thomasi. A riverine African Cichlid that likes fairly soft, acidic water of the kind that Cardinals and Pandas enjoy, stays a nice small size (around 3 inches), is amazingly peaceful by the usual Cichlid standards, and has gorgeous courtship and breeding colours. If you're not set on making the aquarium a 'pure' South American setup, this fish could prove a winner. 16 Cardinals, 10 Pandas/Habrosus and 4 of those Cichlids would make one stunning setup. Especially if you can find some nice intricate bits of bogwood to go in there and drape them with Java Moss and Java Ferns. The resulting aquarium would be stunning.

Oh, you would also have room for around 4-6 Otocinclus as well, to keep the algae at bay.
