I put some live plants in at the start and didn't know about rinsing them for snail eggs..I noticed one snail and then 2 more..I have removed them but i see these little white things on the glass..like maybe there new born snails? I don't know.I have 3 glow light tetras and 3 rasboras and a pepper cory catfish and one clown pleco..is there anything I can do to get these snail under control?

They sell a product that kills the snails and doesn't harm the fish.

The name of which escapes me at the moment...:%)

But it works well, the thing with snails is their A sexual so you only need one.....

Let me think on that name, or maybe someone else has a functioning brain

There is a product called Had-A-Snail. I believe Aquarium Pharmaceuticals makes it. I've never used it personally, so I can't comment on it's effectiveness.

Borrow a Clown Loach from your LFS. They worked wonders for me when I had a snail problem and the other bonus was the fact that I wasn't dumping lots of chemicals into the tank.
Cheers, James.

Snails are pests & can multiply really fast. It's difficult to eliminate them, but you can try to control them.

i to had the same thing where i got plants and snails took over my tank. what i did was i had to clean the tank out . i got rid of all the snails and used hot water to clean the snail "things" i guess adding loaches might take care of the problem or a lfs might have snail be gone.

You could also try putting a slice of zuchinni in at night, then remove it in the morning with the snails attached. Over time it will reduce your snail problem without chemicals.

re: Mr Cichlid's post - i'd be interested to know if any snails, aquatic or otherwise, are asexual, ie produce by parthanogenesis, without sex...i was under the assumption that all snails were in fact hermaphroditic, ie carry both sets of sex organs, fertilise each other and both lay eggs...just wondering...

get some loaches or something that eats snails. I just had the sane thing, little white speck things on the walls. I did a water change and wiped the glass as clean as I could. I have a snail muncher in there (a freshwater dolphin) who I was wondering what he was eating, but when I did the gravel vac I found like 50 or so empty snail shells. GO FLIPPER. I tried the cucumber and zuccini thing but didn't get but 3 snails. I'm thinkin about come yo yos or dwarf loaches to give him a hand, when I upgrade him to a larger tank

I was thinking of getting some loaches but I am like at capacity on my tank now..so I guess i will just keep plucking them out..as for the white worms on the glass..I cleaned the tank last night and scrubbed the glass..and they seem to be gone..

Snails often lay eggs on the glass and maybe that could be what you mean by white worms. The eggs are clear and imbedded in a clear sacish gel. I also believe that somethng that is hermaphrodetic has both sex organs and can produce as long as it has another species of the same kind. Asexual refers to no evident sex and I think they can reproduce on their own.

Do not get any loaches for a tank that small!

The white worms are probably planaria and if you stop overfeeding they will dissapear.

There are many different species of snails around with very differing ways to breed, totally asexual versions are very unlikely though. Some snails even are livebearers and only carry one baby at the time. The best you can do is to feed less, remove the snails you see and wait. Maybe they won´t become a problem, they can even be a benefit to your tank since they help with cleaning leftovers and most of them eat algea.

So here I am once more...

I plucked out the snails i have seen and they seem to be under control. the white worms are gone now also..I guess I was feeding to much..the only problem I have now is I have the nasty cyanobacteria..so I am at battle with this now. I am going tonight to get 5 more corys..seeing how i only have one in there..should of done more research on this.
any ideas of what to do here for the CYCNO

thanks
