psuklinger Fingerling Posts: 31 Kudos: 12 Votes: 1 Registered: 03-Aug-2006 | I recently planted about 20 plants in my 46 bow. Today I noticed 2 snails, 1 one a plant leaf, the other moving up the glass. I am pretty sure I DO NOT want these in my aquarium, How do I get rid of them? Thanks |

They do no harm to your plants and may actually benfit your aquarium seeing as how they will get into every little corner of the tank and get at any left over food(over feeding often causes snail population booms). Anyway, if you really don't like them there are one of two things that seem to work. The first is to simply place a lettuce leaf(or a piece of zucchini or squash) in your tank a yank it when it gets covered in snails, second you can always add a yoyo loach or three if they get along with everythingin your tank. |

A small Clown Loach will do an excelent job. They do get big but that takes years. To clean up the bits of food in those hard to get to places Khuli Loaches are perfect for that. Did you clean the plants first under a running tap. I also will never buy plants that have snails in the plant tank. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Yoyos are fairly common and just as good of snail eaters. Dojo(aka weather loaches) and kuhli are the only common loaches that I've found won't really eat snails. Personally I prefer to add desireable snails like trumpets or fancy blue and red ramshorns. They will outcompete the dull brown pest snails while still giving lots of benefits to the tank. |

You could just manually remove the snails when you see them and see if that helps. If you get more than you bargained for, the afforementioned methods would work just fine, and i'd suggest the method of putting in bait overnight and taking it out in the am. |

All i say is when you see a snail.. just smash it with your fingers. i know that sounds harsh, but if you dont want them there then thats what you have to do. -kristin =]] ~!!I lOve LiFe!!~ |
