I have a 6 gallon tank
I currently have a siamese fighting fish (malehort tail) in there...

I was wondering what could be compatible with it?

And if there is what sort of fish could i put with it safely.

Thanks in advance!

there are short tail versions of male bettas out there. my lfs sells them, but i think they look like girlie-men

with a 6g you're pretty limited to what you can keep in there. you could get a couple ottos in if you have an algae problem or 1-2 of the smaller cories, but otherwise you won't be able to get much else in there.

Just leave the Betta on his own, or else you can add an Apple Snail.

I wouldnt add anything, especially not a dainty cory. I've read that the smaller corys are among the more delicate, and an uncycled or unstable tank such as a 6 wouldnt' be the best home for them. IMO anyway.

If you have enough hiding places in the tank; you could add a few ghost shrimp instead of the cories for cleanup. You could add either a few Ottos, or an Apple or Mystery snail(though they get about softball size eventually), unless you have live plants. Hiding places are neccessary for the shrimp because the Betta may attack and kill them(my experience).

You could also add an African Dwarf Frog, they scavange(especially like shrimp pellets)food on the bottom. The Betta may flare up on the new additions for awhile, but if there is hiding places for them...he will get used to them.

If the betta you have really is a short tailed male, then chances are he is a Plakat. Plakats are born to fight! They are far more aggressive than your average veil, halfmoon, or crowntail betta. I would be VERY careful what you add in with him. I have Plakat males, and just lost one because one of my other ones managed to jump into his tank, bite off half his side, and jump back into his own tank. I have caught them jumping into each other's bowls before, but thought I had the water levels down enough that they could not make it. It was a VERY nice male I had had imported from Thailand recently that I lost too. Think long and hard if you think you have a Plakat before you add anything in with it. I personally would go with an apple snail. You can find them in some beautiful colors that would compliment your male nicely, and they have their own built in armor to protect them.
