what kind of reasearch did u do?

maybe the info u got was mixed,

common plecos dont fit in a 55 gallon,
and ID sharks dont fit either,

both of these are for big tanks, 100+.

from my experiense my ID shark was stunt and 20 inches long. and in a way small tank, many problems. also common plecos can get huge and are not for small tanks like that.

in a 55, with a firemouth, you can go with 2 moonbeam gourami, 3 hoplo cats, and a glass catfish school.

Don't put Common Plecos & Irridescent Sharks in a 55 gal. tank as they get too big

As said before, don't put the ID shark or the Common Pleco in a 55. Common plecs grow about 16 inches and ID sharks get about 45 inches +. They are monsters.

As for the Firemouths, they only get around 6 or 7 inches. You would probably be fine with a pair of them. They are fairly peaceful towards smaller fish so if you wanted to add some tetras or cory's, it would be do-able.
