I recently set up a 29 gallon cycled with 3 platies and I need some stocking recommendations. I don't have much of a selection, however, very limited cichlids and other fish. Right now it has 3 albino cories and 3 platies, 2 are mickey mouse and 1 is red wag. I'm looking for kind of a good community fish, maybe a cichlid. My dad saw some discus in an AMAZING fish store last weekend and now is absolutely fed up with me getting one. I keep telling him it's not big enough though. So, what do you guys think would be a good stocking recommendation? Also, I added an anubias nana on saturday and my cories are frequently eating stuff off of the bottom of the leaves that I can't see. What are they eating? Well, thanks for the help!

I would get 3 more cories, 4 more platies, 1 angelfish, and maybe 3-4 ottos. Also if you want to get 3 male sword tails. The platies will make babies but with this stock i think the fry over populating won't be a problem. and in terms of what the cories are eating, im not really sure, maybe bubbles, i have seen mine do that time to time.

You probably have several options, otos are awesome algae eaters, and totally peaceful. You could probably do a small (8-15) school of tetras (like neons, emperors, black skirts, cardinals etc), or even a male betta if that is your thing. Swordtails, mollies (prefer brackish) khuli loaches, clown loaches (only a couple because they can get upwards of 8", angelfish (only one and cannot be mixed with neon tetras or small fish that it can eat) and rams are also good choices as well. Good luck with your tank!

Fish are like potato chips. . .you can't have just one

Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to put in 8 of some sort of small tetra, a pair of rams, a pearl gourami, and leave that extra for any fry that make it.

Sounds awesome The only prob (a teeny one lol) is that you will have a lot of activity on the bottom of the tank (tetras usually are bottom middle dwellers and rams like to stick to the bottom as well. The platies I had also liked to be on the bottom and the cories obviously are bottom dwellers) However the pearl should stick to the top, but maybe you could consider another top swimming fish? Like maybe 6 tetras and 4-6 hatchet fish if you like them? Or something else? Otherwise the tank setup sounds awesome, and I wish you luck. (hint hint post pictures)

Yeah, I thought about all that bottom activity. The platies I have mostly stick to the top, and my past experiences with tetra tell me they like the mid-water section. I might go with the bolivian rams if I can find some, if I can't I'll just improvise. As far as pictures go, good luck with getting me to post any. My pictures make my fish look like they're moving 704968494985 mph. I'll keep at it though!

I wouldn't add swords, youd get over crowdeed really quick. I think you should add:

3x Albino Cories
8x Black Phantom Tetras
1x Angelfish

I think an angel would be a great addition and it almost looks like a discus....
