Massimo-Raps![]() Small Fry Posts: 11 Kudos: 12 Votes: 0 Registered: 07-Jun-2005 ![]() | i DECIDED TO GET A 20 GALLON aquarium. I'm letting it run for a few days. Does anyone have any suggestions of hwhat i can put in??? I'm getting plants, what fish can i put in there. I was thinking: 7-10 neons 5 glow light tetras 5 shrimps(ghost) 1 dwarf gourami 3 sword tails(1m 2f) i'm thinking this is over stocked. If it is can u give your suggestions. |

First read threw the FAQ on starting a new aquarium. For stocking that tank your going to need to drop a few fish how about 12-15 neons ( or glowlights) 1 dwarf gourmi and a snail (the gourami would love the shrimp snack) or 3 sword tails and 10 glowlights ( or neons) 5+ shrimp Id do one large school of the neons instead of 2 small schools as it gives a better display of their behavior, and is a much more impressive sight. Please read [link=this FAQ on Cycling]http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin-cycling.asp" style="COLOR: #EB4288[/link]. Running the tank is fine for a few days to make sure that there are no leaks, but you must go thru the cycling process before adding any of those fish on the list. As for the stocking, I dont feel that 20 gallons are big enough to have more than one school of fish. They just look better in larger schools. I'd drop one of the schools of tetras and work on increasing the size of the other. Neons have their own issues so I'd suggest going with the glolights instead. ^_^[hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal. The hope that starts, The broken hearts... All the young from their spawning would quickly impact the bioload on the tank, and the gourami would probably keep eating the babies, anyway. If you wanted to cut down on the stocking even more you could only get one school of about a dozen small teras, either the glowlights or the neons (or another small type like cardnals, black neons, or a school of harlequin rasboras), but not both. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

You'd be better off getting a nice centerpiece fish...a dwarf gourami (4 in)? Then add a few smaller fish...possibly some medium sized tetras? (approx. 2 in -just to calculate)if you had five 2in tetras...that's 10 sq inches. Add some bottom feeders for the borrom to compliment the top region (gourami) and middle(tetra) Figure: Dwarf Gourami(top region of tank)= 4 inches Five Tetras(middle of tank)= 10 inches three Smudge spot cory (bottom)= 4.5 inches total: 18.5 inches You can play around with the diff kinds of fish, but make sure their temperment matches, schooling fish have others of the same species to play with, have diverse water regions, do calculations to make sure you don't overstock. *Also, if you were me, I would put some guppies in with a gourami. They're both beautifil, and the gourami will do population control for the guppies! Good Luck! Tina I've got a fever... and the only presc |
