I am going to get a 41 gallon (155l) tank and I would like to ask some questions about stocking it. I have almost concreted the bottom part of the tank, which will be stocked with:
3 oto
6 corydoras
1 red tailed black shark or rainbow shark
I was wondering which shark was less agressive/territorial, because i have got mixed answers. Also, i was wondering if I could have more otos? 4? 5? Could I also have some more corydoras? 7? 8? Now onto the middle and surface regions. I was thinking about stocking those two regions, JUST with neon tetra. How many could i have?

Neon tetras wont spend much time at the top. What you could do is go neons for the middle and maybe a Blue gourami for the surface, the gourami would also act as a 'centre piece' fish.

Not sure about the cory or otto schools though, ive never kept them.

The Red tailed Black Shark is more agressive - Fact.
They are both classed as semi aggressive though.

Really, you're going to get different opinions on the red tailed and rainbow sharks. What it all boils down to is personality. These fish are individuals; each one is different from the next. Some red tailed sharks are peaceful, others are very territorial. Same with the rainbows; you just never know what you're going to get.

The cories and ottos would actually be happier in greater numbers. You've got a pretty fair-sized tank, it would be great if you could add a few more of each of these fish. They're social little critters, and appreciate company.

Neons are going to hang out in the middle of a tank for the most part. A bunch of them would look pretty nice, but I do agree in that a/some top-dwelling fish would add some balance. Perhaps a shoal of pencilfish or a pair of dwarf gouramis?

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I agree with Brook's on the Shark issue. Mine is harmless and had it for 7 years. These dudes are a combination of dna and environment. Then again I read horror stories about them. If you want an kick a** aquarium I would get glow lites or black phantoms and get an African Butterfly like in my avatar.

Thanks for the advice! Here is the community so far:
1 rainbow shark
5 otos
10 corydoras
18 neons
2 dwarf gourami
is that overstocking? If not, how many of each fish could I add?

It's better to leave it as it is, because it's better to have an understocked tank, than overstocked.
