I want to change my tank a bit and was thinking of adding a few more fish. Its a 32 gallon and I have 6 cardinals, 6 black neons, an angel, 5 danios, 6 cories and 2 ottos. I was thinking of expanding the school of cardinals, and after reading a different post about bettas I was thinking of adding a betta. Could this be done?

yes, but that would be MAX. the tank sounds full, but u can add a few more cardinals, and a betta. but look for the bettas agression.

Id add two or three cardinals... but this I may have a problem with that unless they are adult cardinals. Because I got my angel before the cardinals and when i got the cardinals i let them grow a bit in one of those fry nets. And when I released them the angel went after them but lost interest after a while. Id try to get a female betta if possible. I was gonna add a few more cories but I think Im gonna overstock the tank. I may give the danios away.

this isn't always true, but from what i have studied over the years, female bettas are worst with smaller fishes in a community tank than males.

i think the cardinals will be ok. even though angels in the wild eat cardinals, there shouldn't be any problems. if you get rid of the danios(forgot how many) i don't think it would may a difference in adding 2 corys, b/c they live in different zones.

Tank is overstocked. If you want change maybe you could get another tank, and have different community fish in it.

Well the cardinals and the angel have had no problems. The angel has just given up on trying to eat them. The cardinals are big now so they wont even fit in the angels mouth. So I could add a few more cories a betta and 2 more cardinals and it could work? Would it be overstocked? I have a Fluval 204 running on the tank, and I can add a AC 200 (but really dont want to because I find they are a pain to clean out).

Edit: Posted at same time so didnt read your post.. SO youre sayying the tank is overstocked as it is???? I dont think so..

shounds just full. i'd get rid of the danios like you said, and then get a few more cardinals, corys and a betta.

update: the lfs that u buy our fish from would be your best bet. even if you don't get store credit or money. give it to them, and buy your nw fish.

Now the trick is to find some one to give them too.

What if i hold off on the extra cories until i give the danios away?

I wouldn't try to put 3 schools(black neons, cardinals, danios) in that size tank. I'd stick with just 2 and do 8-9 of each then an angel and instead of a betta you could add a gourami or try to find a more peaceful betta. There are many that can live in community tanks like that. In my opinion the danios would be the best fish to drop as they are extremely active and tend to harass slow moving fish. I have had danios kill other fish by stressing them out. In a large school the danios may not be too bad but I'd definitely make sure I had at least 6 of them. For the cories the more the better. If you are doing a large species of cory then I would add 8 for smaller ones probably 10.

Well my danios dont bother any other fish. They were used to cycle my tank but I kept them in there. I think I will get rid of them and add to my cardinals and cories. Well I have an assortment of cories now... long story... but I may get rid of those and just get like 10 of a small kind... maybe peppered cories. Could this work then?

9 OR 10 cories
9 cardinals
6 black neons
1 angel
2 ottos
a better or gourami

I saw honey gouramis in my lfs a while ago and they looked nice. How would i pick out a peaceful betta?
