I have a new 10g that just finished cycling. I currently have 6 Zebra Danios (zippy little buggers aren't they) but would like to add something with a little colour to spice things up.

I've read through the "profiles" section and just about every thread involving stocking a 10 gal. and I'm more confused
now than ever. I'd love some advice as to what would be a nice addition without creating an overstock situation.

Bust on over to the LFS and pick up some cherry barbs There unfortunatly isn't much you can do with a 10, let alone one with 6 fish in it already!

Cherry barbs are cheap, will add some variety to the tank, and can handle lots of differing water parameters

I currently have that same setup, a 10 gallon with 6 Zebra Danios.
Before I bought a longer tank for Danios, I was also thinking about adding some more fish to the 10 gallon. Fallout's suggestion of adding 2 Cherry Barbs is exactly what I was going to do. And I'm sure that would have worked out great.
The only other suggestion that I can think of would be a couple male Guppies. But, you will have to keep an eye on that, because the Danios might enjoy nipping the Guppy's fins.

I would add an apple snail too. Good tank cleaner and fun to watch.

Have you considered a dwarf gourami? Though they aren't super active like danios, they are beautiful little fish. If you get one, just watch to make sure that it doesn't get its fins nipped by playful danios.

Cherry barbs are a good idea too, as they won't overload your small tank like the other barbs will. A pair of cherry barbs would be a nice addition.
