I am looking to get another tank and don't have a ton of room. I only have about 36" of space were I want to put it so I am thinking 30 gallon long or maybe a 38 gallon.

Would a 30 long be big enough for a firemouth and 6-8 tiger barbs. Is this enough room and are they compatable.

Any thoughts would be great thanks.

You could easily put the tiger barbs in there, probably the Firemouth, not quite sure though about the firemouth.

you could put both in there but the tiger barbs will be lunch .

how about
38gal
2 firemouths
1 raphael cat
1 Bn
1 african butterfly fish
1 red tail black shark

Its overstocked but manageable with weekly water changes
congrats on the new tank

a 40gal breeder tank would fit there, providing you have 18" of space to accomodate width. Also, a 45 gallon tank would fit in there as well, but you wouldn't be able to stock is as much.

I think the firemouth and barbs would be fine, firemouths are pretty timid as far as cichlids go.

You could always just ditch the 'mouth and go all barbs

I would hesitate on mixing the firemouth and barbs. Either go with a cichlid tank or with a peaceful community tank.

Best of luck,

I would go for an all Barb tank & it will be full of movement, non stop.

Thanks for all the comments everyone. I may ditch the firemouth idea. I heard that they would do fine with barbs but if I keep it out that means more fish. If I can squeeze a 36-40 gallon tank in what do you think of this all barb tank.

8- tiger barbs
6- albino tigers
6- rosey or black ruby barbs

And with this many barbs would they harm a small group of ottos(algea control).
