| Stocking question regarding Neons and an Elephant Nose! | |

Keep getting conflicting info from fish shops! I have a Vision 180 litre tank, cycled and established for about a month, currently with 11 neon tetras, 5 sterbai corydoras and 5 amano plant shrimp. Its filter is a normal vision filter + a Fluval 204 external power jobby... And its a planted tank with undergravel heater, black sand substrate with some eco complete nutrient underneath the sand for the plants. It has a piece of bogwood and a few assorted rocks in as well. Over the next few months I want to add: 6 Marble Hatchet Fish 4 Rock Shrimp (what do you feed these little critters?) 1 Siamese Fighting Fish (male) 4 African Dwarf Aquatic Frogs 2 Powder Blue Dwarf Gouramis & 1 St.Peter's Elephant Nose (feeding?!!) Can these fish/ invertebrates go together? I am particularly interested/ concerned about the Elephant nose as I have got conflicting info. on whether they can live with neons? Also I have heard frogs may nip the Betta's tail? Is this true? Are there any other conflicts with any of the fish, and if so which would I best leaving out of the setup?? Thank you so much, this site is a life saver (or a fish saver!) Abid |

I had my elephantnose with mollies and guppies..never had any problems. |

Betta and other labyrinth fish do not get along so you have to choose either the betta or the gouramis. Also whether a betta gets along in a community tank depends on the individual. Frogs won't bother anything. It's actually the other way around and frogs have even been damaged by shrimp. Frogs aren't the best for a community tank and are difficult to feed since all the fish grab up the food first. The shrimp won't be a problem and will clean up left over food like the amano shrimp. Adding the marble hatchets sounds overstocked to me. Especially if you want to add an elephantnose. Last edited by sham at 17-May-2005 11:41 |

Think I'm gonna go with adding the 4 rock shrimp, 6 marble hatchetfish, 1 betta and the Elephant nose. Is that still overstocked bearing in mind I already have neons, amano's & cory's in the tank?? Anyone know what to feed the Elephant Nose on? Frozen food ok? Thanks again fish lovers. Bye for now... ) ![]() |

How many are you going to buy? I belive the best is to buy one since they will fight and the strongest will survive. Good luck with your new fish Robby Last edited by robby1619 at 17-May-2005 13:01 |

How do you combat overfeeding your Elephant? Just put a cube of bloodworms into my tank today for the neons and corys and masses of bloodworms kept on coming off the cube. It was lucky I was holding the cube, otherwise my poor fish would have been seriously overfed. Surely 1 frozen cube of bloodworms after lights out would be way too much to feed even a large Elephant??? I'm confused!! ![]() |

That's what I do anyway... Just put the cube in a shot glass (or cup) and wait 10 minutes. Then, right before you feed, add a little watter to the cup/shot glass. That way you don't have to feed ALL of the bloodworms to your elephantnose. Just pour out the amount that you think is appropriate. If you have any other tanks, you could feed any leftover in there, maybe. Last edited by fishnewbie at 17-May-2005 17:25 |

Can anyone tell me if this is this still overstocked in my Vision 180? 11 neon tetras 5 Corydoras Sterbai 6 Amano Plant Shrimp 3 Rock Shrimp 6 Marble Hatchet Fish 1 Siamese Fighting Fish (male) 1 Elephant Nose ??? Thanks everyone. Also do these go well with a single Bolivian Ram Cichlid? If I'm not overstocked?! Do Rams mind being kept singly?? |
