Just an update:
I picked up two kribs yesterday and they seem pretty happy so far.

Really? I'm glad I know that, now I'll probably pass on visiting and save myself a three-hour drive. Thanks!

That's actually the one I was talking about. They had a whole tank of painted fish last time we were there, and it wasn't the first time we've seen painted ones there.

Have you been to Annandale Super Pets? I haven't had the chance to drive up there yet, but I do know that they are a fairly large store and I've heard that they have a decent selection of fish. That could be an option for your.

Their webpage: [link=http://annandalesuperpets.com/fishdepartment.html]http://annandalesuperpets.com/fishdepartment.html" style="COLOR: #808080[/link]

I'm really not crazy about gouramis, but I'll keep that in mind about the kribs while I'm looking around to see what I can find. I've never had any of my fish try to breed (that I know of ) so I'm not usually worried about their breeding behavior...
We'll probably go 'fishing' this weekend and I'll let you all know what we find.

Oh, Theresa, you live in MD, right? Do you have any good LFS suggestions for the area around DC? We had been going to one, but they have been selling a lot of dyed fish lately so we want to stop going there, but I don't know of any other good places in the area. thanks!

The problem with kribs is that if they end up breeding they'll be very agressive

I personally would go with a gourami

edit: or how about keyholes?

Thanks

Hi all!
I need to figure out a new center-piece fish or two for my 29 gal (I had a large angelfish, but it just got moved to my other tank). Currently I have:

5 redeye tetras,
1 zebra danio who thinks it's a tetra,
6 long-finned rosy barbs,
and 1 yoyo loach (soon to be 3 loaches altogether as soon as I find two more)

I'd like to add something colorful and active.
Oh, my water parameters are ~80 degrees F, 7.2 pH, and 7 dh

Thanks!

Those are interesting ideas, I'll keep them in mind next time I'm browsing at my LFS.

Any others?

How about a festivum or a pair of Laetacara curviceps? They're pretty cool cichlids.

A pearl Gourami would look nice in that tank, or a trio (1 male and 2 females) if you have room. a group of about 6 (get 8-10 and expect some deaths) otocinclus would also be good for algae if it's a concern, especially if it's a planted tank.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

Thanks for the response.

I guess I should add a couple of other qualifiers:
-My wife doesn't like any of the plecos or any of the usual algae eaters (although she does think ottos are cute)
-We don't want to duplicate anything that we'll have in the other tank (angels, cardinals, pandas, bolivian rams)

Other than those, I'd love to hear more great suggestions!
