Hi

This is the first time I have posted here, I always come and read what other people are doing with their tanks and what sort of fish people are stocking in their tanks.

At the moment I have a 55 US gallon tank, with an Ehiem pro upto 250 litres and a power head with filter attachment below.

I have 3 Clown Loaches, 2 Zebra Loaches, 7 Tiger Barbs, 4 Hillstream loaches, 3 Glass Catfish, 1 Ancistrus L144, 1 Clown Pleco and flying fox.

Do people think that this is overstocked? I have had this tank for over a year without any loss of fish. I am doing regular water changes. I know as time goes on I will have to get a bigger tank for clown loaches but at the moment they are not big enough to justify it.

My 2nd tank is a 29 US gallon, has a Super pro 1 filter 100-200 litres. had this almost 3 months now, has CO2 and has quite a few plants

It has 3 Otos, 3 Cardinals and 3 kuhli loaches. I am adding reverse osmosis water every water change to this tank. I will also be getting 3 more cardinals shortly.

Is there any recomendations on what else could be added without being over stocked.

Many Thanks
dave

The only reason I'd say your 55 is overstocked is because the clown loaches get very large, and the pleco and ancistrus tend to produce a lot of waste. Is the tank hevily planted? If you plan to move the clown loaches (or move out everything else), when they get larger, then I think you're probably more or less okay, though you have an awful lot of bottom feeders and not so many mid/upper level fish.

In the 29 you have a whole lot of options. You could get more than 3 more cardinals, for sure (and I'm sure they'd appreciate it). You could get some cory cats, or a large centerpiece fish such as a gourami (Pearls are currently my favorite, and are quite community-friendly, and you even have enough room for a pair or a trio of them), or a second school of a different kind of tetra such as black skirts, diamond, rummynose, lemons, etc.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

about ten more cardinals and a dozen rummy nose would look great in that planted 29

The difference between 'involvement' and 'commitment' is like an bacon and egg breakfast: the chicken was 'involved' - the pig was 'committed'."

The Clowns will be OK for about a year or two. Ultimately, they will need a 125 Gal. Good excuse to get another tank

Thanks for the replies.

I already have my eyes on a larger tank, upgrade of the one I have now, which is 121 US G. When I can get this depends on my persuasion skills on the wife, so when this is done I can then move them from the 55 to 121, doubt I will have both but that would be nice.

The 55 is not planted heavily just have Vallis as it is the only thing that does not get pulled out, have wood and slate. I do like the bottom feeders, loaches, the only one i do not see is the clown plec. The ancistrus l144 is excellent, going up and down vallis eating, and all the hillstream loaches are on the glass chasing each other around. Clowns and Zebras are great, Glass catfish bit boring just hover all day.

I was thinking of moving the 2 zebra loaches out into the 29G but I like them in the 55

I do like the honey gourami but I think I like RAMS better, would these be ok.

I do like the Rummy Nose tetras could I get 6 and then 3 extra cardinals.

Thanks
