I currently have them in a 55g tank but want to do something else with it and dont want to lose these fish so will be able to live in 2 10g tanks? |

Although some would. I have kept platys and guppies in 10 gallons for a long time and they have not been stunted at all. Males to 4cm, females to 6.5cm. They were quite happy actually and spent all their time swimming round the tank happily. You could have: 10 gallon 1. 10 platys 10 gallon 2. 10 guppies 15 fish left over. If there is male and female of platys and guppies, you will need to have a place to put the babies. Or you could keep them in the 55 gallon and use the 10 gallons as grow out tanks for the babies. ![]() Last edited by labrakitty at 17-Apr-2005 19:30 |

A) Platies tend to swim around quite a bit, and need more room than ten gallons offer. B) That is too many fish for such small tanks anyways, twelve small tetras (like cardinals or glolights) would be the maximum I'd recommend for a ten. C) The babies. Unless you happen to have all males or all females, they are going to multiply like crazy. You certainly don't have the room for dozens of fry in addition to all the parents, but you could use the tens as fry tanks. Just an idea. EDIT: Also, platies do get larger than an inch. Two inches is a common size for them to reach, yours probably aren't done growing yet. Last edited by sirbooks at 17-Apr-2005 19:30 |

I had the mother guppy and 11 of her half-grown female offspring in a ten gallon tank... they were growing VERY slow. As soon as I removed some of the half-grown girls (leaving mama and five girls), the half-grown grew amazingly fast. I am VERY satisfied with my ten gallon now... I've got mama guppy, the five younger girls, and a male betta. It's a nice stocking level, nice combination of fast movement from the guppies and gliding prettiness from the betta... works out very well. And since it's all girl guppies, there's no babies. And if there WERE, the betta would prolly be a good population control system. ![]() ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

For some reason my females changed sex. It was like when they were 1 year old a lot of them started to get color and became males. Odd i know Edit: wow fishyhelper288, u got the exact number that i have for the fish! Last edited by fishlover89 at 17-Apr-2005 20:40 |
