This was a long time ago when I was fairly new in the hobby and much younger, but I had a 55g set up with archer fish. Anyways, when I would get home from work I would sit in my recliner that was in front of this particular tank to read the newspaper and the archers would shoot water through an opening in the top cover and hit me or the paper. They would continue to do this until I got up and fed them. It was great entertainment and always amazed any visitors that would happen to be at the house. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I've never had fish spit at me My cichlids will jump and splash really loud in the tank if I walk by at night and not feed them...Bubba (one of my aceis) has to rub against my fingers in the evening as though i'm petting him, and if he's not happy (I know he takes a good bite from the finger before letting me pet him, once he's been petted then the others will approach me...

My mom once had "Mr. Bass" as a pet fish in I guess a 55 or so, and when he would be upset, he'd knock everything off the walls (thermometer, pumps, hood at one point, etc). It finally came to his undoing, when he committed "suicide" while mom was at work one day from knocking the whole hood into the tank, light and all. That upset my mom the most...

Does and of this qualify as weird?

Wow Those are some awesome fish. All that I can conclude from my fish's behavior is that they all hate me I have scars. No kidding.

Even the little killifish have a go at me...

My electric blue johanni, aptly named Jo, though, is a real character. No one bothers him, he doesn't bother them, and he'll circle around weak/submissive fish and beat up anyone that tries to come near them Like he's protecting them! It's very interesting. My alpha male, a lombardoi, also has a habit of just shoving my poor bichir around with his nose. If he's in the way wheere he's digging, he just shoves him around like he's nothing

Speaking of my lombardoi and relating ot how my fish hate me, he has a habit of spitting gravel at the glass when I walk by... what did I ever do?!!

Very interesting I have never heard of any thing like that. While I was in the Northern Territory Aust I saw some very large Archer fish.

OldTimer OK how old is that I am 67 what about you?

My CT Betta Spike doesn't like to be ignored. Whenever I walk past, he will display his beautiful fins. Sometimes, when I miss the exact feeding time, he'll jump out of the water and back in until he is fed. Its quite amusing to watch.

For keithgh - I'm not that old, I guess just a young 52, but have been in the hobby and have had at least 1 aquarium set up and running since 1972 which has included numerous moves around the world (20 years in the Air Force will do that for you). By the way, this is a great site and I'm totally amazed at the knowledge and dedication that so many of the younger hobbyists seem to have. Good work and keep it up!!!!
