I've heard that some additives and de-chlorinators can give you a false ammonia reading... Does anyone know if Stress Coat could lead to a false ammonia reading? Also, what is the most highly recommended de-cholorinator?

Products that claim to neutralise ammonia will most likely give false ammonia readings. EG. Things like Amtrite and Amrid

What brand of dechlorinator are you using now?

Some find that stress coat gives an ammonia reading as the aloe that is used in it breaks down causing a small spike. I'm not sure I can believe that though since if used on a regular basis it would become part of the bioload effectivly.

I personally use Aquarium pharms tap water conditioner. Treats chlorine chloramine, and one drop treats a gallon .
