I currently have:

6 panda cories
6 neon tetras
6 cherry barbs

I just set it up last week. I used some gravel from my old tank and I'm using the foam filters from my Whisper HOB filters to "seed" the tank. I'm not going to add any fish until the cycling is over.

Add about 4 more pandas, 2 more neons, and a pair of pearl gouramis or one opaline gourami. Then you will be stocked.

I'd just go with more Pandas and Neons. And possibly a trio of Otocinclus to round things off once you start getting some algae in the tank. That should be a VERY nice setup once you have decent shoals in!

The transformation that took place when I took advantage of the October 2005 disaster to move from 6 Cardinals to 12 was amazing ... the Cardinals are a LOT bolder and show themselves a LOT more at the front of the aquarium. Carpet bombing them with live food also helps their boldness a lot too!

You have a very nice setup right now. I would personally find some sort of 'centerpiece' fish you're interested in next...maybe after that add some sort of algae eater?

I'm planning to add 4 more neon tetras. I'm still thinking about what to get as a centerpeice fish.

Thanks for your advice!

Any suggestions for a centerpiece fish other than a gourami?

I believe an angel would enjoy eating the neon tetras after it grew big enough

Thanks for the suggestions.

Some people have been able to keep angels and neons together. If the neons are full size and the angel is small when you get it, it will realize that they are tankmates. They are the natural prey in the wild, but alot of angels are bred in captivity and have never been in the wild. They may have an instinct, but it is possible to keep the two together.
Adding the small angel after the neons always helps. I keep my angel who is about 5 inches tall and 4 inches long with small flame tetras and while they aren't neons, they are small tetras and my angel doesn't even chase after them. She is totally peaceful.
I don't know if I would throw some neons in my 55g, but it could work to keep the two together, if you do it correctly.

I suggest an opaline gourami (like a blue gourami but with 3 spots instead of 2), a pearl gourami, an angel (if your neons are pretty good size), or a dwarf gourami.
I wouldn't get a ram, only because pandas are bottom fishies and neons tend to stay near the bottom (or atleast mine do). Rams stay near the bottom, so I would get something that hangs out near the top...like a gourami.
