What would be the best method for filtering a long, thin aquarium, dimensions 66"x16"x6" (capacity 23 US gal)? Would more than one filter be required due to the length of the tank?

Also, would any hardwear other than filter, heater and lighting be required for the tank?

Thanks!

A HOB filter is fine for this tank- you could add a powerhead if you need more water movement.

Filter, heater, and a hood are fine- you will also need water conditioner- if you City adds chemcals to the water. A thermometer for checking temps, etc

Ditto what BM said.

However if you do have two filters available you could one filter on each end of the tank. That's how I'm running my 10 gallon, just happened to have two small filters available :%).

If you dont have two filters laying about then a powerhead is often cheaper than a second filter. Set the powerhead at the opposite end of the tank, if the flow seems to bother the fish you can break it up by aiming towards the back of the tank or providing plants to help break it up.

You may find that two smaller heaters would work more efficiently than one larger one at keeping the entire tank one temp.

I would go for an external Eheim canister reason they are the best but also most expensive. Cost = Quality.
As you tank is narrow this will take up basically no internal space at all. All you will see is the inlet and outlet at opposite ends.

Two heaters would give you a more even distribution of heat also one each end as close to the inlet and outlet as possible. Also a good small Rena air pump with one or two ceramic fine air stones.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

As you are in the UK HOB filters are a non starter as they are not really sold over here,a small canister type filter will be fine for that gallonage of water and like Keithgh i am an eheim fan.

Gibson SG you know you want one!!
