The former would be fine, and definitely fit the theme if not perhaps the biotope. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

smantzer![]() Big Fish Posts: 378 Kudos: 347 Votes: 10 Registered: 02-Nov-2004 ![]() | Okay, PLANS: Tank 1 will be an african biotope. African butterfly fish, and whatever else you guys think are interesting africans for a 10g tank. Anubias plants, of course. Wood, rocks. Tank 2 will be a mini-brackish tank. Knight gobies, I was thinking black mollies too and I can feed the off spring to my cichlids (if the gobies dont gobble them up). Wood, rocks. Tank 3, I'm not decided on. Brichardi cichlids would be most convenient-- my LFS carries them, and I'm experienced with cichlids. For darters, I would have to wait until summer, and wait for my parents to maybe take me to French Creek or something, which is far away from where I live. All tanks will have a thin play-sand substrate, so any plants I use need to be able to grow on rocks or wood. I'm going to be doing DIY hoods, too. Wish me luck!Oh, and suggestions on: Other african fish-- and if you know any african swamp plants, please tell me And brichardi or darters |

gnr4ever8794![]() ![]() Enthusiast Posts: 253 Kudos: 222 Votes: 24 Registered: 12-Apr-2004 ![]() | yeah theres darters in Pa, never seen one look that nice. Hmm...native PA fish...that'll fit in a 10 gallon...Around my area, Williamsport, there's not too many. There's the longnose dace, which gets about as big as a danio, in the spring time the males get a red stripe down the middle and they look great. Interesting fish, I've kept them before. I've also got them to take flake food How about the mottled scuplin? They need live food but they're pretty interesting and don't get too big. You could feed them small fish, worms, tiny water bugs, small crashfish, small shrimp. They're all browns n tans n junk with a splash of dull red on some. Maybe go catch a crayfish and keep it in one? I think that would be fun. If I can think of anymore natives I'll post em. Where in Pa do you live? I don't know where West Chester is.... |

They are pretty tho..... ![]() ![]() |

smantzer![]() Big Fish Posts: 378 Kudos: 347 Votes: 10 Registered: 02-Nov-2004 ![]() | It's hard to find killies in my area-- all I've found are golden wonders, they're in my 55g planted tank and look gorgeous. I've heard of N. Brevis, but what as they? ![]() |
smantzer![]() Big Fish Posts: 378 Kudos: 347 Votes: 10 Registered: 02-Nov-2004 ![]() | Also, gnr4ever8794: West Chester is outside of Philadelphia, just an hour's drive from Delaware, to the East. |

There are a number of lacations and varieties, but mine, for example, look like this: ![]() Because they're minimally pugnacious and stick to their own very small territories when paired (none of this applies to groups, individuals, or two unpaired fish), they're safe with most fish that can handle the high pH and GH they require.[/font] -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |
smantzer![]() Big Fish Posts: 378 Kudos: 347 Votes: 10 Registered: 02-Nov-2004 ![]() | gnr4ever8794- I'd love to know what kind of natives I have here, but I don't know where to look. LittleMousling- Where could I get some like that? And they're good for a 10 g, right? |
littlemousling![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Conchiform Posts: 5230 Registered: 23-Aug-2003 ![]() | Brevis is a fairly common shelldweller, you're likely to find it locally. Just call all your local stores and ask about shelldwellers and/or brevis, zebra shelldwellers, etc. Definitely good for a 10 g. A pair maintains such a small territory you could keep two pairs in a 10, although personally I'd recommend a single pair and their fry. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com! |

One has a refugium, and the other is a sump. Put a nice return pump in each of them, 10-15 lbs of live rock, and a light, and you are set. You could also drill in the returns as well and maybe a closed loop, but thats going to be like a $500 10 gallon. |
chizunk![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Enthusiast Posts: 160 Kudos: 164 Votes: 0 Registered: 21-Jun-2004 ![]() | you could possibly use one for nothing but plants it will make a nice decaration in your home or a breeding tank if u want to try breeding a certian fish that you favor there are many many ideas that i could think of maybe a couple small pieces of live coral |
