Alright, my 55 gallon tank has finished cycling. The water parameters are perfect and I'm ready to get some fish! I know I want some sort of catfish for the bottom, they are so active and so much fun to watch. I would like to try some more angel fish, but i'm afraid they are too delicate (am I wrong here). And as far as anything else goes i'm up in the air. I will be looking around in the profiles to see what I might like, but i am up for suggestions on what schooling fish and any ideas y'all might have. I will be returning one pleco and as much as i hate to my tinfoil barb. She is getting so big and her fins and tail are such a beautiful BRIGHT orange color now:#( but, I guess I will be returning her too since y'all say she will get too big for my 55 gallon tank. I am keeping the peacock eel. He has been a trouper and made it through my deathly ammonia spike, so I guess he wants to stay. Also, i only have silk plants, and i'm interested in getting the little guys some real ones. Which are best? WHat about snails and frogs? So many questions so little time.... SO, please give me some suggestions...I'm all ears!!!

one more thing. do i need an air pump? i have two aqua tech filters running with the water about an inch and a half from the top of the tank. I see air bubbles through out the tank, but should i get an air line going?

The barb really does need to go back, not only is size an issue but they are also schooling fish you'd easily need 10 times the tank you have now just for a moderate sized school.

If the eel is staying it's going to need hideing spaces, I'd start with finding some wood or making some caves then attaching some java fern as it's a fairly easy low light plant.

Which catfish have you been looking @? IMO it's best to look @the fish available in your area, then checking the profiles section here and ask on the boards as to what will go in your tank .

Hello again, it's nice to see that you are getting things under control. I'm rooting for you.

Now, most little ocmmunity fish wouldn't sit well with a peacock eel. Angel fish should work, and they are no more delicate than most fish. If I were you, you might want to try some african or SA chichlids of some sort(including angels). They are tough and can handle themselves with an eel around.

well, i went and got some fish. Here is what i got:
6 some sort of rasboras..grey in color with silver and black stripes down their bodies.
7 tiger barbs
3 albino frogs
2 catfish
1 black shark
3 blue gouramis
1 bonus guppy
1 bonus snail
i talked to the man at the pet store and he said peacock eels don't usually mess with anything. He was out swimming early this morning and didn't seem to bother any of them. The only thing I am noticing is that the shark is definitly trying to dominate the tank. The store owner said he would take my tinfoil barb in for trade when he gets too large, or i notice him eating the others. I am so please with my tank now. There is so much life and excitement in there. So far so good! I know it usually takes a few days for things to get sick or start dying. I'm keeping my fingers crossed this time and hoping i have everything right. The lfs tested my water and said everything looked great!! i'm so excited!! thanks for all your help and support!!!
GOT NEW FISHIES!!!

I've read your other threads and i know you've cycled already. but adding that many new fish will mean you go through another, smaller but no less dangerous, cycle. luckily i think most of yourfish are quite hardyones. but having added that many you mkight need to do a lot of water changes for the two or three weeks it takes your tank to catch up.
good luck

Oh no not again!
This is one of the reasons why your last tank didn't work out.

You'll want to figure out if thats an albino clawed frog or an albnio dwarf frog. Clawed frogs will get big and they will eat your fish.

How about the catfish, what type? Many are schooling and will need a bigger group.

I suggest taking the barb back for trade now, he won't get "too big" for the tank. Instead he'll stunt which is what happens when the body stops growing. It's a painful process that only ends with an early death.

ok, the frogs are dwarf, sorry i should have mentioned that. I didn't realize that the reason i had the ammonia spike was because of the number of fish, i thought it just happened as part of the cycle...man, just when you think you know something...i will do my 25% water changes every 2 to 3 days and hope and pray for the best. I was told on my other thread that the black shark may be a bad investment as well...i don't think it is the one they are thinking about because the lfs owner told me he only gets to be about 5 inches. everything is fine so far, JEEZ, i hope this works out! i checked the ammonia levels today and they were good...everyone looks fine, when should i notice if they are getting sick or not??? does it take a few days??? HELP!!!
