| Taking over a friend's tank... Need advice stocking. | |
jovi_princess![]() Small Fry Posts: 4 Kudos: 6 Votes: 0 Registered: 08-Oct-2005 ![]() | A friend/co-worker of mine has given me her 20g (tall) tank. I have taken care of fish tanks before and have been a long time visitor of this site so I know all of the basics and everything. However, this lady has been having trouble with her tank mostly due to the fact that she cannot keep up with the weekly tank cleanings. So, she has given the tank and the fish to me. The tank has been set up at my house and everything is running great. All of the numbers are good and everyone seems to be doing pretty well. The inhabitants of the tank are a male Betta, two Cherry Barbs, 3 Harlies and 2 Panda Cories. Now, I know the numbers aren't what they should be, but like I said, she was having trouble keeping everyone alive unfortunately from not cleaning the tank. Anyway, I was hoping that I could move the Betta and the Pandas into my 10 gallon tank. Could the Harlies and Cherry Barbs go too or would that be too crowded? I would like to clear the 20g out so that I can get some Tiger Barbs (which I had before and absolutely loved)... So, I'd like to try and move everyone in the 20g now into my 10g. So, I guess I would just like everyone's thoughts about this. I don't want to increase the Harlies and Pandas in the 20g, because, as I said, I want to use the 20g for other things. So any thoughts, comments, suggestions, opinions, etc. that anyone here has would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone! |

The Cherry Barbs will swim really fast right up to the Betta and make it look like they bump him with their nose. Then they will turn and start to swim away at a pace that is just slow enough for the Betta to keep up. Then, suddenly, they will turn around and actually start chasing the Betta. None of it seems agressive at all; it honestly looks like they are playing. The Betta never flares up at either of them and they will only do it once in a while (it is not a continuous chasing). Aside from the fact that the Cherry Barbs are well capable of swimming a lot faster than the Betta. However, I don't think I could put the Cherrys in with the Tiger Barbs. |

IMO the mix of the two might be just asking for trouble....but keeping it in mind if you do decide to do it make extra sure you keep up on maintence and all the jazz. I'd like to see the schools increaced though .Another option is to trade in some of the fish at your LFS. ^_^[hr width='40%'] "in any case, chocolate is hardly a rare comodity." said Chaos.
