I just got a butterfly betta for mothers day and was wondering if a bathroom would be a bad place for a tank??

This bathroom is in the basement. Would the heat from baths and showers affect the tank at all?

Any help would be wonderfull.

I'd be worried about all the chemicals one uses in a bathroom... cleaners, etc. If you've got a heater, basements aren't bad, however, if it's anything like my basement, there's NO lights except electric. That means your betta has a really weird light cycle. Also, you can't just leave on the tank lights when it's dark in the room... otherwise the tank walls act like a mirror and your betta is stuck flaring and trying to fight his reflection.

I finally brought mine upstairs because he was stressing out (my dad kept turning off the room lights) and tearing his tail up. It wasn't a good situation, but it could possibly work if you had family willing to leave the lights on or more natural lighting in the basement.

~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~

I wouldn't put him in the bathroom, as it's the room that i don't use much. I'll put him in a room where i'll spend most of my time.

I dont thik I could have thought of a worse place to keep any fish, reasons mentioned.

I am putting my new Betta tank along side my computer screen. In a well lit room. It will also be heated, filtered and well planted.

You know I really wanted to keep my betta on our computer desk but my hubby did not like him there. He was afraid that the tank may start to leak and damage the computer. But now that I think about it I'm going to move my betta back to the computer desk so that I can check him out while I work.
