Hi, I'm setting up a new tropical tank, and the only good location available is right in front of a radiator, very similar to the one in this picture http://www.stanford.edu/dept/hds/shs/conserve/images/rad.jpg

The radiator carries water at about 60-70 degrees celsius (140-160 fahrenheit), and it heats a whole room up to about 23 celsius (73 fahrenheit).

The tank would be located about 5 inches above the radiator, and 5 inches apart from it.
I would like to know if this would cause the water inside the tank to heat up significantly, or if it doesn't really affect the water temperature too much.
If anyone has some experience with this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I would think that being that close in proximity to the radiator would very quickly cause your tank to overheat and thus cause the demise of all your tanks inhabitants.

I would have to agree witht he above, but maybe try setting the tank up beside it with no heater and see what the temp sits at then measure that with your heater to get to desired temp, but that def sounds like a reciepe for disaster

Ok, thanks for the help.
I'll find somewhere else to set it up, or if I have enough time, I'll put the empty tank there to test the temperature.
Thanks!

Hmm I agree it sounds hazardous. sounds like you would be causing a heat trap and lowering the radiator's efficiency by placing the tank directly in front of it. I wouldn't recommend it personally. Besides it is best to put tanks against a wall so that is can carry the weight.

Not only a big nono for the fish tank I think you could cause other heating problems as the heat could/would circulate in the room efficiently.

Have a look in [link=My Profile]http://

Thanks again for all the help. I think I found a better place, far away from any evil radiators
