Actually I lucked out when I got to the aquarium it was "Sara Lee" Day and general admission was free, but I did pay extra to see the "Wild Reef" and the "Oceanarium".

For any future visitors of the Shedd Aquarium, unless you really want to see the dolphin show and all the extras, you can get in pretty cheap. But you have to tell the ticket-seller you don't want the extras, you just want to see the fish. They don't even put that option on the priceboard -- basically so you pay for things you may not even want. (This is true of almost all museums I've been to, also, I figure it is always worth it to ask if there is a student discount or "basic" entry ticket... the worst they can say is "no".)

That said, I've always enjoyed the aquarium up there. In more recent news, I was in a used book store and bought an old "Guide to the Shedd Aqiarum" for $2.99. It has a bunch of behind the scenes pictures, which probably aren't up to date having been published in the 1960's, but still pretty interesting. About 150 pages of species profiles, too.

I think it might be Bensaf with a piece.

New York wiseguys

Gimme a break. That guys ancient way older then me. No way I have that much grey hair, come to think of it no way I have that much hair.

Actually I was in that Aquarium many years ago. Long before I ever had a tank. It was a freezing January day and I need somewhere to get from the cold. Can't remember much about it, remember trying to figure out what time the bars open.

I like Chicago. My company has an office there, once in a blue moon I get to go over on business.

tetratech,

I have recently seen a documentary about US aquaria on TV (well up to the point where I fell asleep) and the Shedd was one of the shown. I liked it very much and one of these days (in the summer time though, I hope) I will go there myself.

Thanks for sharing the road trip,

Ingo

I've always wanted to visit the Shedd Aquarium, but have never had the opportunity. Nice pics. Thanks for posting.

Even discus where in there in this front view. Sorry for the reflections. Speaking of reflections that's NOT me in the glass reflection. I think it might be Bensaf with a piece.

It was interesting to see tetras and cichlids with this big anaconda, but that's life in the amazon.

Fish Friends,
I had to go to Chicago for business and I had a few hours to kill, so what better way to do that than at the Shedd Aquarium. Here's some pics I thought I would share.

I thought the planted tank people would like this statement over one of the exhibits.

Many of the biotopes had almost the entire surface of the water covered with plant vegetation, probably more natural, but not practical for planted tank people, but probably better for the fish. Can't be all things to all.
