Hi, right now I have a 90 gallon tank with a fluval 304 and an Aquaclear 500. The fish I have right now are 2 blue gouramis, a common pleco, a BN pleco, 6 zebra danios, 2 platys, and 3 cherry barbs. Please name some big fish that I could have and which fish I would have to get rid of(I'm thinking all of them except the common pleco). Thanks

Well if you're thinking about getting rid of all your fish (I hope that means trading them in) except the pleco and you want big fish, why not go for a couple oscars?

A single oscar with the common plec would be good. Only if though if you upgraded your filtration a bit more. Its good right now for a single oscar but with a common plec it needs a bit more. A big fish that isn't that common would be a tilipia. Look at some of the bigger CA/SA cichlids. Most can be kept in that tank alone except for the dovi or umbee. Another option would be Malawi haps. Theres a lot that get around 8" and are peaceful for cichlids.

Thanks guys. If I had just one oscar in the tank and nothing else, do you think algae would be a problem? I've heard common plecos are not very efficient at eating algae.

A bristle nose plec would be good. They get big enough to stay alive. Just get the oscar small enough with the BN

I love big fish...but if i had to rid all my big fish except 1, i'd keep my silver sharks...they are huge and look insane AND they dont touch any of my smaller fish! I also have a massive black shark...bit aggressive but magnificent to look at! My advice....keep ur small fish and buy friendly big fish....hehe, if not Get Oscars! had a breeding pair and loved them! weekly water changes are the go with strong filtration! hehe

I dont agree that the BN will live long, it will live until the Oscar is big enough to eat it - it will get eaten. Oscars will eat anything that will fit in their mouths so none of the fish you have will survive. Silver dollars often work well with oscars because they grow in height rather then width, a common pleco is also a good choice but you will be up for alot of cleaning. Other aggressive type fish can go with your oscars, Bala sharks can work because they are quite fast but need to be bigger then the oscars - oscars grow fast!

Sometimes oscars do fight with each other so just a warning but if you have any questions PM me, have a look at www.oscarfish.com

A ac500 and the 304 is good filtration IMO but with 2 oscars their will be some work (lots of water changes and vacuuming).
