gee janna, what makes you say that?

hi harley

Tiger barbs are awesome I'm glad you bucked the trend of those crummy swimming triangles, aka 'angelfish' for the beauty of the infinately cooler tiger barb

They shant muss your plants up, mine never have!!

I figured it out!!!! Bloodworms work, they just don't like me watching them eat. I had to stand at the end of the tank to make sure they ate it. Personalitites showing through already.

they prefer sinking pellets(brine shrimp) and love bloodworms. they prefer feeding at the bottom of the tank ive found, thats the tiger anywayws.

The rosy barbs like some flake as well.

LoL. Cool. I get the idea now. Since we dose the lawn annually for grubs, I see myself hitting the bait shops. If they don't like them, the frog will definatley eat them. He just doesn't like large food. Go figure, all my animals are picky except for the dogs (or four-legged vacuum cleaners). Let's hope I find something they like. I'm thinking that the tank still seems big to them and they can't see me trying to feed them.

So just normal earthworms? Should I cut them up first?

Yea, normal earthworms. You must take care to collect them from a spot that is not contaminated. This means no cheating and digging through your leechfield for them. Also, if you know the ground has been sprayed with pesticides within the last 5 years, they're no good. Also, that hole you dug to put the used motor oil is no good either. You get the jist.

You can get earthworms from a bait shop if you'd like, and raise your own from them if you so prefer. You only have to cut them up if the fish can't eat 'em 'cuz they're too big. Most larger fish can munch down a good sized one w/o help, but smaller fish, like your almighty tiger barbs, will need bite-sized pieces.

could I try mealworms, or too big?

The only thing with mealworms is they have a hard outer shell. I've fed them to some of my larger rainbows and they've never had a problem with them, but unless you get them right after a molt when they're white, i wouldn't try it.

They'll much zuchinni after you blanch it a bit to make it soft and tie it to a rock Just don't leave it in over 12 hours if they reject it like celine dion rejects donuts.

I tried the tropical crumbles tonight, and they weren't interested again. I'll try some frozen bloodworms tomorrow night when I feed the cichlids. Somehow I think a whole cube is too much for four of them. Good thing the cihclids are big eaters.

So just normal earthworms? Should I cut them up first? My frog has a hard time eating those things, could I try mealworms, or too big? Would they eat zuchinni?

The oddest thing I've noticed in the past few days is that the "hostile" shark seems to hide from these guys, with only 4 in the tank. I think they gave her a run for her money already.

BTW... how hardy are these guys? I'm dosing with Melafix as I have recently with all new fish, but should I be on the lookout for ick or such gross things (I hate diseases with fish).

But I will be back at the LFS stocking up on more of these little fellas later this week... give the bio-filter time to catch up.

Any tips to feeding? They don't seem to like the Tetra-Color flakes I've been giving them. Good thing the Tetras do, I just bought the stuff. I've got a whole bunch of goodies for my spoiled cihclids... should I give some of that a try?

I have 7 tigers 1 green and 2 rosy barbs.

Its a planted tank and no munching.

They are a great fish very active.

The rosy barbs are actually even more active swimming round the tank.
Consider getting a pair of these they have great colour too as you can see from tigerangels pic...

no fin nipping problems either 1 dominant male keeps everyone in line but haven't had any injuries amongst them..

12 plus the shark should be ok for a 30gallon.

OK, I was looking for angels, but from the complete lack of stock, ended up falling in love with the tiger barbs. They're now happily chasing each other around the 30g with my new rainbow shark. I only got 4 to start with, as the tank has been empty for a week and the bio-filter has surely diminished.

How many tigers can I stock the 30g with? Also, I have a few plants in the tank (not fully planted yet) are these guys going to start munching on the live plants?

Any other tips for these guys, as I know many around here love them (and I see why now!!)

I have Green Tigers/ Albino Tigers and Original Tigers all shoaling together with the Rosy Barbs and a Strip Barb. Also with the Clown Loaches. All get on just fine.
I just put in some live plants, and they did give them a bit of a mulch.***Tiger

tiger barbs are probably the most active schooling fish you can get. i have just 6 and the school together all the time. and interesting thing is that if they are large enough clown loaches will sometimes school with them because of the similar color patters. i know mine did when i had large tiger barbs.

I think the best thing about TBs is that they're like kids in a playground and it's so funny to watch them check ANYTHING new you put into the tank and sometimes even take turns to bounce off of it one by one

I thought it was Fallout that was the big Tiger Barb fan. That's the thing I love about FP. So many people with so much experience. I learn quite a few new things here every day.

Yeah, Tiger Barbs are schoolers. I'd go with all regular ones, since they do like schooling with their own colors. 8-10 sounds good to me. I wouldn't go with too many, since they are very active, and they get about 3 inches long.

I bet Tim (Fallout) is also your new friend now .

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

Well, as long as the don't attack the sword and go for the Javas... which most fish don't like anyways. I could really fit that many in there? I was guestimating 8 with the rainbow shark. More is better if I can fit them. Should I stick with all normal Tigers, or go for some of the Green or blush also? I know that schoolers like to have the company of their own, but these really aren't schoolers are they?

I'd go with 15-20 of them if they are going to be the only thing in the tank...and they shouldn't destroy the plants, but you never know, they might get the midnight munchies

they are fun aren't they! You could fit about 15 in there, and no they wont bother your plants.
