king4day![]() Small Fry Posts: 10 Kudos: 10 Votes: 0 Registered: 30-Jun-2005 ![]() | Hi everyone. I have to move to Charlotte later this year and I plan to give some of my fish away to friends but there are a few that I want to bring with me. Does anyone know of the best way to transfer fish from NY to NC without just throwing them in a cooler of water and hoping for the best? Thanks |

I'm going to put mine in critter keepers (the larger ones) They have lids with air holes. You may want to do a small water change, though. Kim |

You may want to bag them then place the bags in the cooler. You can buy sleeping tablets from your LFS to help keep the fish calm during transit. I used some when I brought fish back with me from NY to MD (ended up being 24 hours). One thing to look into before planning on moving fish is how the ph of the water compairs to what it is where you are now. You might need to reconsider stocking options if you're going from a ph of 6 to 8. ^_^[hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal. The hope that starts, The broken hearts... Be sure to use a 1/4 to 3/4 water to air ratio, then place the bags into your cooler. I always put water in my cooler as well, this serves 2 functions. It allows me a temperature buffer for the bags, and it provides reserve water should a bag decide to leak. When doing this tho its a good idea to make sure that your bags fit snugly in the cooler to prevent sloshing. |

I used to get a quarter tablet because my trip to the lfs was 45 minutes . Put them all in the cooler snug and then keep your car moderately warm. Not to warm as to fry the fishies. Place the cooler on a blanket to cut down on vibration from the floor of the car. Just make sure the fish can't fall over. Good luck Last edited by Nameless at 02-Aug-2005 11:50 |
