LFS also has a transparent knife fish that I like. From a bit of research it can reach 14 inches and is predatory(like most knife fishes).

Anyone have any different information to offer? Or possibly any personal experiences??

Thank you.

what is the specific name, the only one i know of being transparent is the green knife fish. but what u habe listed, that is very general about msot knife fishes, but the size might be larger depending on the exact type of knife it is.

in any case, i imagine their behaviour will be very similar to that of other knives... most are nocturnal and somewhat territorial, so many hiding spots are a must. also, knives have an electic "field" around them that allows them to local food, other fish, decor, etc... it is best not to keep more than one of these types of fish in a tank as the fields can apparently interfere with one another (same goes for elephantnose fish, baby whales, and other mormidades (sp?))

most knifefish are fairly sensitive, too, so good water quality is a must. in gerneral they shuld be fed frozen or live foods, but some can be trained to accept prepared/flake foods.

sorry i can't be any more specific about your particular species... can the LFS not tell you anything? good idea to do your research first, though. good luck!

If you're thinking Eigenmannia virescens, they are a rarity among Knifefish. Why? They like to be in groups. They are a hardy fish (at least, not more sensitive than Black Ghosts) that are relatively easy to care for.

My warning is that due to this large size and the social aspect of these fish, a large tank will be necessary for adult specimens. Also, getting these fish to feed on processed foods may be difficult at first, though after time they may be more accustomed to feed on such foods.
