A loooong time ago, I posted asking anyone if they had advice on how to travel with my fish. I just wanted to let everyone know that yes, it is possible to take fish on long car rides and have them survive.

I basically bought a cheap styrofoam cooler and asked my LFS for some fish bags - they were very cool about it and gave me the biggest ones they had for free - so I double-bagged my zebra danios in one bag and my guppy in another, with the snails from each tank in bags too.

I guess they slept all the way...there was traffic so I think they were bagged for maybe 6 hours total, and when I got their tanks set up they were all still alive and doing splendidly! (I played a lot of classical music in the car...maybe that helped? )

So a big thank you to everyone who offered me advice last December - I was skeptical at first, but now I know it can be done without much fuss at all.

Good luck with them in the new home.

Ah, styrofoam boxes. We know them as 'Poly Boxes' here in the UK. Every aquarist who attends fish shows has Poly Boxes. A good Poly Box can keep your fish alive for up to 12 hours in transit before a water change becomes an issue.

Thats great for you and your beloved fish.

It is very upsetting if a few don't survive but the fish you have are pretty hardy.

So congratulations. Enjoy setting the tanks back up and decorating them again. That is the fun bit.

Thanks everybody! The problem now is that since they all made it, I'm tempted to start a new third tank because I know transport back to school in the fall won't be so bad

Although if I did, the tank probably wouldn't fit in my car - it was already PACKED on the way home!
