Well, now that I have come into owning 3 juvinile pirhanas..they are about 4-5" in length...what are some good treats to give them that you all have experienced that work? I have so far given...shrimp pellets, frozen shrimp.. little chunks of that and they do eat flake food. anyone else have ideas that they have used and thought went over well? Oh, what about the frozen fish foods.. what do they like there?

Right now you could try earth worms from your back yard, cut into pieces, and I'm sure they'd accept heart and liver as well. Frozen or refrigerated should work.

When the get a little bigger, they would probably eat feeder guppys and rosy reds, and maybe even feeder goldfish.

You do know they're schooling fish, very territorial, dislike other fish as they grow larger, and will grow to about a foot? Just making sure

you could put them onto most floating or sinking cichlid pellets. you could also try Jumbomin Carnivore sticks though these would make a big mess. also, any raw fish or seafood from your local grocery store would be a nice treat, and I'm sure they would tear into some beefheart. you might be able to get them to eat frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp which would also be a nice treat for them.

if you do decide to feed them live fish, it's always best to breed your own. you could get a pair of convicts, let 'em spawn and grow up the fry a little bit to feed the pirhanas. this way you know the fish will be free of disease and you can feed them a good diet as opposed to feeders at lfs that probably don't get fed much at all.

Just a word on the earthworms... be sure they are secured in an area that's far away from your septic tank/leechfield if so equipped, and be absolutely positive no pesticides have been used for the last 5 years or so in that area.

well earthworms are not a choice right now, as the ground is frozen solid!! i have 3 pirhanas ....i do know they school and are messy eaters! i have researched them well!! I do have a feeling that i will have plenty of feeders, as i have quite a good handful of endlers right now, and i am breeding and keeping my own
