Congrats!

Be sure to feed them several times per day. They are very slow growers, so the more you feed them the faster they will grow.

I did an experiment earlier this year. I breed most of my Rainbows outside in tubs. The fry, when brought in and placed in a tank inside. Takes about a year for them to get a little over an inch in size. And about 18+ months to mature. This year, I left 2 different species (dorityi, and fasciata) outside for the entire summer. I only removed the fry as I sold them. In only 4 months, the fry were the average size of inside fry at about 1 year or more. In other words, they were 1 inch or over. Great having live foods for them, as well as it being free live foods, lol.

Ha what do you know! Woke up to fry! Theres about 12 so far, still some more eggs to hatch. Didn't expect them to hatch so quickly. Anyways, I've got some infusoria growin. There cute little guys! Look just like betta fry! I also put in some water lettuce for them to hide under.

I guess you could say they are betta fry small. Or maybe even smaller. My comparison above was with regards to the size of BBS. This is the usual size comparison I use, for very small.

APR=Artificially Produced Rotifiers.

You can order it online, as rarely do any lfs carry it, though you might ask yours.

The eggs take about a week to hatch, give or take, depending on the temp.

These guys are in breeding mode usually in the morning and late evening. Amazing colours!
I doubt they will spawn again for a few days cus today we had a major blackout and they got pretty stressed.

One question about the eggs: The seem to be developing really fast, like I can already see what appear to be 2 little eyes in each egg...

Oh and one more thing, what is APR?

Check the mops about an hour or two after sunrise. The Rainbows usually spawn in the early morning hours, but can spawn all day long. They will eat their eggs shortly after spawning, this is why you should check them early. Place the mops in a separate tank, with a very slow bubbling aireator. Only about one bubble every second. Just enough to move some surface water. As the fry are very small, and can not handle any kind of current, especially a strong one. Feed only the smallest floating foods. These fry will immediately go to the surface of the water, and stay there for a long time in the start of their lives. As long as several months in fact. Feed only the smallest of foods, like APR, infusoria, and the like. BBS are way to large for them, and in fact may eat the fry as foods. BBS can be used after about a month or so of growth. Growth is realatively slow.

HTH....
