Ok I know I goofed today, but what else could I do? Two of my boys brought me a new fish for the tank todayI asked them where did you get it? From another guy, he gave it to us...where did he get it? We don't know, but we got it for you

So here I stand with an empty 20 oz soda bottle, about 2 inches of water and a fish inside, no lid...how long has the fish been in here, since yesterday...Dang why don't I have an extra pump in school?

So I half way float the bottle, and add her to the tank, and immediately begin treating the tank...didn't want her to die, didn't want to hurt the boys feelings, and didn't have much options...

So folks looking at it. It is shaped similar to the guppies, and looks like the female guppy anal fin wise...she has been a little shy today (don't blame her the male has been very uhbusy)

So folks what kind of fish is this? Please say I'm not an idiot, but the boys looked so sweet at the time, what do you do?

Heidi

I'm not positive if guppies reach the US naturally, or that many livebearer species for that matter.

She's too drab to be a least killifish, so I agree with it being a mosquito fish.

The pattern in the dorsal fin looks like a mosquitofish, but i'm curious why she isn't preggers!

I used to catch SQULLIONS of Gambusia Affinis when I kid.

I'd say it's a gambusia (mosquito fish)

I don't know why she isn't pregnant myself...but she is rather young, and only about 1/2-3/4 of an inch, so that could be why she isn't pregnant, yet

So for now I guess we will agree that she is a mosquito fish? If she ends up pregnant, we can assume, that she is a very plain guppy, or feeder guppy. We still don't know where the fish really came from:%)

Actually, if the fish is only 1/2" long then I doubt it's a mosquito fish, as they are males as juveniles and change sex later in life, and that one seems to be missing the male "spear" on the ventral fin.
