princesslola![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Small Fry Posts: 8 Kudos: 7 Votes: 2 Registered: 11-Aug-2005 ![]() | I had two gold gouramis in a 10g that spawned yesterday, so I took out the female whe all the male was doing was chasing her away anytime she even looked at the nest.....so far the male is eagerly taking care of the eggs....I have read alot on the internet, learned alot, but I still have questions that I cant seem to find. 1. Do I remove the male? and if so when? 2. Can I turn of the lights at night, or should I turn them off? Im worried that the temp will drop without the lights on. They spawned at about 84-86 temp. It cools off at night to about 80 in the tank. 3. What is the optimal temp to keep the tank at? 4. How can I create? culture? or make infusoria? I looked on the internet and there was a site that said to take some tank water and add some dried leaves to it and let it sit in the sun for a few days, the water will go cloudy and then I will have infusoria. I have tried this but the water has not gone cloudy yet. I will need to feed the fry in the next day or so. Any help on these questions is greatly appreciated since this is my first spawn. |

You can make lots of infusoria by having 4/5 Apple Snails in a small tank with a box or sponge filter & feed them Lettuce & fish food, like flakes & sinking pellets. They produce lots of Infusoria by time & that's very good for the fry. Just fill a cup with the Apple Snail water & pour it in the fry tank every 6 hours. You must also keep the temperature as constant as possible & also cover the tank, so you'll keep the cold air out. I would leave a small night lamp, so the male can see the eggs at night aswell & take care of them. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

As far as the Infusoria, I did do this before the pair spawned. I have been trying to do this for about a week now. I have had apparently no success with this. As well, if I had apple snails, I would have done as you suggested. I dont, so that will not fix my problem. Thanks for your input. |

The Lettuce will rot & Infusoria will grow. You will know that you have Infusoria because the water gets a bit brown & cloudy. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Any website on breeding gouramis will tell you that the male takes care of the eggs and fry. You may remove him after the fry are free swimming but removing him before then will result in dead eggs/young fry. 2.Of course you turn the lights off. Leaving lights on stresses fish out. If anything you'd leave them off before you'd leave them on. 86F is a little too warm and 80F would be a good temperature. Instead of covering it up to increase the temperature I would uncover it and run a fan while lights are on to lower the temperature. Set your heater at 80f and not only should it stay stable but at a better temperature than covering it and raising it even more. 3.80F but anywhere from 78F-82F would be good. The fry will grow faster at high temperatures but also require more food and starve easier. 4. Like said buy some applesnails, put some lettuce in a jar, or I just used liquifry for egg la Last edited by sham at 15-Aug-2005 16:38 |

I felt kinda silly watching at first, so I went to cook dinner. Later that evening I went to take another peek, and I had a tank full of eggs. The male was busy blowing bubbles like you wouldnt believe and the female was in the corner, she would come up and he would chase her away. From what I read, that is when I should take her out. I guess they wanted privacy.lol I have another 10g and another very gravid female.....this time I will watch...hehe |

Another good think is to have alot of java moss in your fry tank, can also be a source of infusoria, this is just something I've read. But now have moss in both my tanks. The Amazon Nut... |
