I was just wondering what kind of vegetables you could give a fish? I have guppies, bettas and ottos.

Is it something that is good to give them, or something that is actually dangerous

I just want to be on the safe side here.....

I've never given my guppies or bettas veggies. My otos-and plecs-like fresh spinach, broccoli, cucumber, peas, zucchini.

Tessa,

I think Zuchinni is what we call Aubergine or Eggplant.

My feeding program.
This is always done just after the tank light go on early in the morning
Other than the usual flakes, pellets and algae wafers, & frozen bloodworms three times a week there are many other also foods I use.
I mix and rotate the different types of sinking food each day when I do not feed them with the frozen Blood Worms.
The mixture is always Flakes, sinking pellets, and algae wafers broken up. With the Worms they also get the algae wafers broken up.

The different foods I use are many and varied, never at any specific time or day. All this started not long after viewing FP. I am always willing to try something different. I believe that is the reason why my fish are so healthy as they get a good variety of foods.
Heavy fishing line suspends the pear core & the fish frame. The tomato & the zucchini are held to a flat rock by an elastic band. Two small river pebbles hold down the lettuce leaf.

When feeding with the fish frame, pear core, and the lettuce I do not leave it too long, one hour at the most. I would only feed the fish frame the day before I do my 50 Lt weekly water change.
Once I found a tomato seed that had started to sprout in the internal filter I was using at the time.

Fish all fresh & uncooked
SW fish frame.
Various SW fish mashed
Prawns/Shrimp
Roe FW & SW

Meat
Raw lambs liver mashed very fine about 1/2 tea spoon.

Vegetables Cooked all mashed
Beans.
Carrot.
Celery.
Corn.
Diced
Peas.
Spinach

Vegetables Raw
Lettuce.
Tomato.
Zucchini.

Fruit.
Pear core
Banana. Small pieces.

Keith has been a great source of information for trying new foods since I joined FP. I'm sure my fish appreciate him too

Today we tried carrots for the first time. This BN absolutely loves veggies; she becomes quite protective of her treats and won't let the other fish near them

I have fed my betta's, Grape, peas, and broccoli.

They really loved the grape. I took a small slice of the inside of a grape and fed it to them..they loved it.

I think my answer would be closer to what I don't feed the fish

I've fed: Green Peas, Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower, lettuce, corn (cichlids), green beans, squash, zuchinni, I've done Spaghetti for the Goldies...

So far I haven't found anything they won't eat...including fingers...

I feed cucumber mostly and lettuce. I have tried pear and apple before. My RTBS likes fruits. Pleco's like greens.

I haven't thought of feeding the fishies eggplant...has anyone else fed it to them? What were the results? Here is a picture of what I've always known eggplant as looking like, excuse it as being more of a kid type drawing...heidi

[font color="#000080"]mine especially like corn and lettuce... they also ate some rose petals that accidentally fell in the tank once.... everynow and then my betta gets little pieces of rinsed out canned tuna or chicken... i also like to give my betta fruit flies that i catch near the fruit basket in my kitchen... sometimes i will let a banana get very ripe outside just to catch some fruit flies for him... the rest of my fishies arent too picky... i love trying to find new things for them to eat.... i did put a tiny cricket that i found in my bathroom in the tank once and they ignored it for a whole night so i just took it out and threw it away in the morning. those carrots tied down to the rock kinda look like french fries :-P, i might try feeding veggies to my fish too, it seems as though it wont to any harm, and can only help, the plec must love it.

That's what I call an eggplant here Michelle and no I've never tried that one
I tried cauliflower the other day and although the BNs and plecs loved it (lace gourami chased it around too) I wont use it again because it was breaking up and spreading all through the tanks
