If you were overstocked before, why did you add more fish?

ditto sirbooks....

whats the point of this post? are you genuinely wanting to state or ask something? or just trying to off people here who are patiently and constantly explaining why overstocking is not advised?

In his profile it says its a 29 gallon. Take some of those fish back or move them to another tank.

I also agree with SB. Why?

I also would like to know why you posted this, what is your reasoning behind this?.

forgot to add the reason due to being in a hurry and late at night

my 10 gal hit an amm. spike so i put all of my 10 gal fish into my 29 gal till i get it under control.

so is it safe for me to have all of the fish in there just for a short period of time like a week or so before putting them back

when separate they are fine
i have 0 amm in the 29 gal and all the fish are very happy
and the 10 had a spike cause i was an idiot and put all the fish in at once.
all i want to know is if the 29 will be fine in the short run while i have all the fish in there till i can move them back into the other tank.
i know in the long run the 29 could never hold that many fish as cool as it looks having so many fish in one tank.
in fact if it wasnt for the bio load they would prob just fine. they all are very content in there

Judz,

I will predict that your 29G is going the same route as your 10G did.

You had an ammonia spike because you added all fish at once. Guess what, you did the same again on your 29G. How do you define “short run”? Days or weeks or months?

I assume you have no other options, unfortunately. I would keep a very close eye on the parameters of the 29G and I would perform frequent (every 3 days) 15 to 20 % water changes, if not even more often if your parameters are off.

On a side note, I was reading this morning that Gouramies (all of them) actually are very territorial and can get into nasty fights with each other when they feel their space is in danger. I don’t know if that is true, I only had one. You might want to keep an eye on that as well. It might not have happened yet because the situation is still so new for the fish.

Let’s hope that you are quickly able to restore order in your fish world,

Ingo

Don't get more fish & if possible, buy another tank & move half of them over.

Perhaps you can return some fish to the lfs and ask them to hold them for you until you get your situation under control. Most good lfs's will unserstand your problem and will help you with the fish surviving rather than suffer in a highly overstocked tank. They may care for them, but with no guarentee, but better than that death trap of a 29 gallon.

Best call them up and ask them, and even if they won't, return them to the lfs and then buy them again when things are steady. I thought you were getting/had a 55 gallon tank already though
