I recently lost my fish in my 29 gallon to a lengthy power outage so i am starting from scratch again. I am looking for any/all recommendations of what to restock with. I am looking for colorful and lively fish since the tank is in my living room. Semi-aggressive is fine as well. My PH is around 7.8 and i have mostly artificial plants except for some Java Fern on my driftwood. I have one artificial cave, substrate is small brownish pebbles and the tank background is black. My filtration is an Aquaclear 70/300. Thanks!!!

I am stocking a 29g now also. I have 8 neons in mine at the moment and will be getting 2 more neons, 10 black neons (or glowlights), 8 cories, and a few ottos eventually.

Another suggestion is:
1 Gourami (you pick)
8 lemon tetras
8 Flame tetras (just got some for my 55g..they are pretty)
8 cories
4 ottos

or if you want a semi-aggressive type fish:
8 lemons
8 serpaes
8 cories
4 ottos

Since i am a Barb lover i just came home with 4 Rosy Barbs. The tank at my LFS had a mixture of Rosies and Tigers and i thought it had such a lively and colorful look. Any other suggestions on what to add next with my Rosies?

Why don't you add a school of Corydoras, as bottom feeders.

I'm not a Cory fan really. Think i'd rather have some Loaches, maybe Yo-Yo's. Any other thoughts?

your ph seems perfect for african chiclids, so why not try a yellow lab they may be a bit aggressive, but barbs are fast enough to dodge their attacks

they should be fine together as theyre both semi aggressive (although yellow labs are some of the most peaceful lake malawi chiclids) and they have been kept in community aquariums with little trouble

Not sure about yoyo's in a 29g. They only get about 4 inches, but mine are very playful. They like hiding spots and love swimming back and forth from place to place. I think they would enjoy a longer tank so they would have more room to play. I only have 3 in my 55g but hopefully soon I can get a few more. I think they would be more playful in a bigger group and I just can't see putting 6 yoyos in a 29g. I have a 29g also and I can't picture them in there. They would be cramped.
Maybe other people have kept yoyos in a 29g and can give you their experiences.

Khuli loaches may be better. They are not as stocky (wide I guess is another word) as yoyos. I don't know how playful they are though, because I have never kept them.

I currently have a 29 long with 4 yoyo loaches and 4 rainbowfish (2 turquoise/Lake Kutubu and 2 new guinea reds) and they are very happy together. :-) Pretty much any loach or pleco loves caves or hiding places, and loaches go with almost anything.
