I have a fish bowl that used to have my Beta in it (he died a few days ago.) Maybe one gallon of water if that, is there anything else I can put in it aside from another Beta?

a girl betta
...seriously that's it

Shrimp is a maybe
1 or 2 Fiddler crabs with a rock is a possibilty
but you'd need brackish water (very little, just enough to cover they're legs) and cover or something to prohibit escape

How about a collection of pretty shells? Then you don't have to worry about water changes.

Although, we all know that gourami can breath air like the betta, but IMO a dwarf gourami would at least need a space of 6-8g for optimum health. It can grow 3.5 inches and 1g is way too small for them. Maybe you can put a smaller type of crayfish in there.

All other labyrinth fish are more active than bettas and so would need much larger tanks. I would say a 10g for a dwarf and the only gouramis that would fit in less would be the smallest ones like sparkling, licorice, or croaking gouramis. They also would require heat which is hard to provide in such a small container. In my opinion a betta doesn't even belong in 1g. The only thing I'd put in would be a pair of shrimp.
