The plant is anacharis, and the catfish is a banjo catfish. Good find for a free fish.

Thanks.

I always see that these plants need Moderate light... but what does this mean?

in one of the tanks, it gets 13+ hours of light (a little much) but the other gets no aquarium light, but it is in the living room that gets somewhat moderate light from the sun lighting up the room.

WIll this be good for the plants (including hornwort) ?

It's not how LONG the tank is exposed to light, but rather, the INTENSITY of light. Ambient lighting from the room doesn't count for much, and really, tanks shouldn't be getting sunlight... causes too much algae.

I believe for moderate light, you're looking for 2-3 watts per gallon. Figure out how many watts your light fixture puts out, then divide that by the number of gallons the tank holds. For example, I have a ten gallon tank with a 15 watt fluourescent bulb over it... 15/10... I have 1.5 wpg, or low light.

Hey Victim,

Definately Anacharis, or also known as Elodea...

I find that Anacharis is a very hardy plant, and very hard to kill, being that I've only killed it once or twice

It can be planted or floated, I tend to have it both ways. Doesn't matter really which way you plant it, but look to see which end is the rough cut and plant that down...I've read that it can reach several feet tall in the wild. When you feel that it is getting too tall snap it in half and plant the other half in the substrate...As for lighting, it seems to do very well in my tank, with whatever it is I have...no fertilizer needed except maybe fishy pooother than that, you should be fine...Have fun, Heidi

Yes that is indeed a banjo cat. They spend most of their life hiding under the gravel and sand. They are almost lifeless it seems at times but don't worry they are just lazy . Being nocturnal, at night is probly your best chance to see them. I have 2 one of mine is more active then the other but still i don't see them to often. Grows to about 5 inches and is pretty peaceful. All around a different fish and cool to have

My banjo cat seems pretty active.

I fed the fish, and he came out in the open for a little, but the monster pleco pushed him over, and he went and hid under the drift wood.
