What saltwater fish would you be able to put in a 5 gallon? Damsels and clowns are too big.
Maybe a neon goby?

Hi there,

I decided to make the tank into a nano-reef.

Its now been running for a short while, but no fish in it yet. I'm not sure if there are going to be any fish at all, or just corals, but ill need to upgrade the lighting before i can add coral, and that will have to wait til payday

Pantyhose are a good suggestion; pieces of sponge cut of fit work well too. I've also used cheesecloth but it disintegrates quickly.

I had a 5g once but traded it in for a 10g but i had 2 african dwarf frogs in there and i love them they are a joy to watch and funny at times too. i now have 6 frogs now in a 10g, african dwarf frogs only need 1g water per frog and the filter problem is easy to fix just put a piece of panty hose on the filter intake with a rubber band to hold it and that will keep the frogs from getting stuck to intake and it will catch access food they dont eat and it will keep the inside filter cleaner too. when it gets dirty just replace the piece of panty hose with new piece.

Any of this fish could be kept in a group of 5 in a 6g tank. They are neither very active, nor high on the bioload,
so would be fine in that tank.

think czcz (??) keeps kuhlie loaches in his 7gal with some other fish...

That doesn't make it right

There are a few options for you even
with a high current:
Pencilfish
Neons
Glowlight Tetras
Lemon tetras

These are all schooling fish that would be a bit cramped in a 6 gallon.

I've got a new 6g tank today, with a neat inbuilt filter in the hood, along with a mini pc light. It's all very neat, so I was wondering what to put in it.

Its currently got a few (6) zebra danios in there from my 30g, who will be staying for the few weeks or so until the tank is established, although it should only take a week or so to cycle (All the filter media was taken from my cansiter filters on other tanks).

What should I keep in there once I take the danios out? The filter in there pushes through about 12x flow, so whatever it is needs to be a happy in a reasnable current.

2 cherry barbs or Sparkiling gourmais
&
3 kuhlie loaches

I think that might work

The filter is fairly full of media, so i guess the flow isnt quite as high as 12x, but there is quite a bit of meovement, far too much for a betta or similar. If I need to reduce the flow some more, I can squeeze a load of foam in there, and that would considerably reduce the flow.

Gallons per hour is measured without filter media, though, which slows it down considerably. And there are plenty of ways to reduce flow without hurting efficiency. I'd say choose the fish you want (that's appropriate for the tank size) and deal with the filter once you've chosen.

I know there are alot of options for a 6g but something that likes 12x turnover? Dwarf puffers are out without a doubt because they dislike even my 6x turnover in my 5g and I've heard of plenty of DPs getting stuck to filter intakes. They aren't the fastest swimmers and best suited to slowly stalking prey around objects in the tank with a low current to fight against. Bettas prefer next to no current as do sparkling gouramis. The best way to make it work is to change the filter. The fish that like current either are schooling or too big.

Snails :-) I've got a 5 gallon snail tank, and the snails are more interesting to watch than most of my fish.
