Hello all. I have an oppertunity ahead of me. I have the chance to but some tanks. 40 breeders @ $50 and 75's @ $130. I have been debating setting up "real small" breeding room downstairs. I currently have a breeding pair of angels(no offspring/2 egg eatings), but am more interested in my Synodontis/cichlids. They are not breeding, but I do have 3 adult F0 Multipunctatus and 3 smaller F1's. Tanks have tops and thats it,but I do have filtration to run 2 40,s and half way there for 1-75. What do you peeps think? Good deal? What to do with the tanks? Breed or just more fish LOL. I have about $300 to spend on tanks alone. Suggestions on how many of what to buy if it were you(breeding or keeping).

Stallion go for it:^) You never know when this opportunity might come again:^) I would definately get a 75 or 2 if they are available. How big are the breeders? If they are a decent size (20+ gallons) I'd go for them also...and if you decide that the breeding is too much effort, then bigolly you have gotten yourself some nice tanks anyways...so of course go get them, and let us know!:88)

Go for it. If you don't use all the tanks, or decide not to breed, then you could probably resell the tanks for what you paid for them. Wish I could come across something like that.

Well I went for it and picked up 1 75gal and 2 40gal breeders. I paid $200 US dollars for all 3. The 40's are old and very thick glass and the 75 is in nice shape. Tops came with all,but I have a brand new top for a 75 here already. Suggestions on how to clean the 40's as they were full when I got them, but still have water stains(hard) all over. I will use muratic acid on the glass tops, but donot want to compromise the seals in the tank with it. 1 cup of bleach to 1gal H2O? Also purchased a 4' shop light and 2 bulbs(plant/aqua) from Walmart for $20. Would this be enough light for 1-75 & 1-40(2 40W bulbs)? I built a 8'x2' table downstairs($35), and will have those 2 on top. BTW if you are in Chicago area(Rockford) and are interested in tanks , he has about 12 40gals, 5 75's,1 125,and 1 Whoping 10' 300gal tank for sale as of yesterday.

I would try vinegar to get rid of the hard water stains, with a realy good rinse.

doe is correct. A good scrub with vinegar and a razor blade (don't cut yourself) will get it right off
