I am planning out my next tank (though it is probably 6 months down the road) and I really want Blue Rams and Rummynose Tetras so I have come to this set up...

4-6 Blue Rams
15-20 Rummynose Tetras
1-2 BN
2 Otto's
6-10 Black Phantom Tetras

Obviously the numbers will be effected by the size of the tank I get but I am thinking of like a 90 gallon or something...

I would like to add another cichlid to this tanks...I like the Blue Acara but am afraid they would get to big or agressive...any thoughts as to a 5-8in cichlid that would go well in this tank...or the tank set up in general...

If it's a 90 gallon, then that stock seems good. The tank is going to be planted I presume?

The only thing I'd recommend is that you bump up your oto numbers to about 10.

Otocinclus, usually Otocinclus affinis.

You can certainly fit more fish than that in a ninety gallon tank. I'd add more ottos and more black phantom tetras, then add other schooling fish. I'd start with two species of cories, then more tetras, then either some Apistogramma cichlids or Bolivian rams... Ah, what a tank!

But, that's just me. The above are just suggestions, you stick with what you like. The fish in your list are all compatible, and will certainly be happy together.

thanks...i am a big fan of lots of little active fish over a few big fish...so more schooling fish are cool with me...

An interesting question I have is...is there a point where you could have too many of one species??? for example where 20 rummynose tetras get along well but 30 and they start to overrun and terrorize the rest of the tank???

ncm, i say yes. but usually not peaceful fish. a small red belly will not fight a large cichlid, but a school would. but usually nice fishes won't take over a tank.
