We are in the middle of a heat wave here in SoCal and my tank has been at 84 degrees for atleast 3 days. What should I do and should I be worried?

The fish I would worry about is the plecos. Alot of bottom feeders don't like the temps to get over 80. Danios also prefer water in the 70s but are very hardy. I'm not sure about those exact tetras but they should be fine also. The cichlids are all fine in low 80s.

If you cannot cool the room down this is what I would do.
Turn the tank light off add extra airation. If you can place a house fan over the top of the water this might help as well.

Thanks guys. I may try to do a partial water change with cooler water, but I don't want to shock the fish either. Ah...the fun of having dependants...

I read somewhere recently to tie ice cubes in a bag and float them in the tank. Just a few, but they'll help. The person that wrote it said that their fish were hanging around the bag enjoying the cool.

Switch off the tank lights & add a fan on top of the water & add another airstone, for more water movement.

Next year you can buy an A/C & your problem (i have the same problem, here in Malta) will be solved.
