Hi ya, I bought 10 harlequin rasboras 2 days ago and they have all disappeared. I am fearing that they were eaten in the dark of night and am trying to figure out which fish was the culprit. I have cories, plecos, a couple of dwarf gouramis, a couple of 3 spot gouramis, quite a large silver shark, a rainbow shark, and a flying fox. Any help would be appreciated. I will now never put any smaller fish in the tank. I had to move 4 danios over to my guppy for fear they would also disappear.

How large are the suspect fish? The Cyprinids in particular.

Ok, as far as the sharks go, the silver Bala is about 25cms long (head to tail), the rainbow shark is about 10cms long, and the flying fox about 15-18cms. I think the Bala is the prime suspect, but can't be sure. I used to have 2 the same size but one died just recently.

~~~~~~~~~~~~^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^~~~~~~~~~~~~
SHARK!!!!yep I'm sure they were the culprit
They simply did what seemed to be obvious to themoh look Momma loves usshe gave us fresh fish for supper They didn't realize that you wanted the Harlies to be friends with the Sharks
Think of it this way, if it can fit it into their mouthes, they will eat it
Sorry for the loss,
heidi
[font color="#800080"]I'm not sure I'd point fingers right away at the shark however. A bala will not eat neons, at least in my experience they won't. Did you quarrentine the fish before placing them in the community tank? It's possible that they died and were eaten by all involved. Have you checked your filter? I've discovered more than one dead fish caught up in an intake. In one case the current was too strong for them and they were caught by it while sleaping .
I don't think they caught up in the filter, it has a "fish friendly" intake pipe.
I also believe it was the shark, the blue gouramis are not big enough yet. Oh well, you live and learn. I will never put small fish in the tank while I have the shark. I am amazed I still do have it really - it has survived half a dozen jumps out of the tank, a 7 foot drop to the floor, with a couple of cats circling it for a while. Talk about lucky!!!
