I can not put a plant in my 55 without it getting eaten down to the stem. Even Java gets destroyed.

In the tank I have Severums, clown plec, skunk loaches, dojo loach, whip tail cat, and a red tail shark.

I'm guessing it's the Sevs but I've not seen a one of them eat the plants.

The Shark and the whip tail were put into the tank long after I learned that plants are not a good idea in this tank.

I'd put money on the Severums.
Mine destroy Java moss, Swords and Java Fern pretty completely. Hornwort, Bacopa, Crypts, and Wisteria has survived with them. I suggest making lettuce (red leaf, romaine, or similar) available every day.
I know when I've skipped a day because my filter get clogged with shredded java moss.

sounds like the tank is full, but try this plant called : anubias. it is a hard leaf plant so that it doesn't get eatten, or is very hard too. i have had these anubias barteri and nana. both are great, my wholesaler swears on them. usually 8-10 $ ea.

Java getting eaten is a bit uncommon

Any chance of feeding more veggies, peas, cucumber, zuchinni, spinnach ect to try and keep them from eating the live ones?

why not make a vedgy plant take a stick and silicone or hot glue a bunch a clips to it, stick some favorite foods to it, like leafy stuff, maybe they will turn their attention to this new and tasty plant

I have a feeling Shannen's fish would not only eat his plants, but the "Veggie Tree", and the stick with clips...they seem as piggy as mine:%)

Shannen I'd be willing the bet everyone is helping the cause of "Eat Shannen's Plants" But, I'd be willing to bet the Pleco is doing his utmost best my plecos have always had more than their share...

The clown pleco may certainly have the utensils to administer such damage, but I'm with Georgia on this one. Sevs are planted tank terrors.

I have given up. My clowns must eat them, make holes in them, uproot them.

My tank only has fake plants now.

This idea may seem a little icky, but check the fishy poo... whoever is pooing green is your likely culprit... of course, if your fish are discrete poo-ers (i have had a few in my time) you might be out of luck with this plan. Anyway this tactic exonerated my nippy molly and fingered my favorite fat goldfish for the crime of eating all my plants. He is an OINKER!
