Hello, I'm new to the site but it seems very nice and helpful. Anyways, I just got a 55 gallon tank and am wondering if this setup will work. I would like to cycle the tank with 6 zebra danios, then maybe 8 corycats, then a school of 8 tetras and lastly I would like some swordtails but im not sure how many. Are all these fish compatible? Would this be too crowded? How many swordtails should I have? Any advice would be great. Any other stocking schemes would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Looking it the list I don't see any personality issues, and could very well work. I would say you can even up the number of the school. MY only advice is that while community tanks are all well and good, biotopes and picking fish from the same parts of the world tend to make a much bolder and nicer statement. To each their own though.

Also I highly doubt 6 zebra danios will produce enough ammonia to cycle 55G, but with slow addition I don't see how it would psoe a problems since the bacterial colony should grow fast enough to make up the difference.

HTH,
Megil

To follow up on Megils advice,
You should be fine with that stock. My suggestion is to add the corys last. Zebras first, although they're not likely to provide enough ammonia by themselves like was already mentioned. One thing you can do while cycling is if you're not getting a high enough ammonia reading, you can overfeed a small ammount to make up the ammonia. Not the best plan, and probably best as a last resort if you cant find any biospira or cycle.
After the zebras go with the swords then tetras.
Hope that all makes sense, welcome to the site!

What kind of cory's? Also I wouldn't think of putting any bloodfin tetras with any cory's. Black skirt tetras are also a semi aggressive fish. I have zebra's and their playful and pretty hardy. Albino cories are also a hardy fish. Hope I helped.
